I just got the V1S from gentech, this is our first notebook so please bear with me. So far I love this machine. fast and beautiful, build quality seems good to me (although as I said this is my first notebook)
got the free USB/ESATA harddrive, it works via USB but not ESATA. Is there something I need to enable to use ESATA ?
Do I need to enable TPM ?? What is 3G and do I have it...
How do I tell if the turbo memory is active ??
I also have a 2gb strip of ram, will I notice an improvement from installing it?
Thanks in advance (I'm sure I will have more questions later)

i had the same problem with the ext hd. I used a spare usb power cord that i had and it fixed the problem, now works sweet with eSata.
TPM u can enable in bios (f2) at bootup
    we don't have 3g i think
type in turbo in start menu and you'll see a setup screen. should be active.

Also, i've read 3gb ram is actually quite good for performance boost ;)

    Thanks for your reply..
It just dawned on me as well that the esata bus may not be powered ?? So I did the same thing and plugged in the usb cable as well and now it seems to be working. Under properties it shows a scsi driver that isn't there when only the esata cable is attached.. Let me also add esata is "way more faster"

On another note my v1s sometimes "locksup" on reboot. I can't seem to determine any pattern.. bt on or off, on battery or plugged in. Some times at logon screen and sometimes after booting in to windows. I can power down (hold power button for a few seconds) and reboot and it will boot fine.
any ideas? do you experience the same problem?
    thanks

When I ordered and what still appears to be the case is that you have to check a bubble and pay $30 for the eSATA version, so unless you did this you probably have the USB only version.

I checked the bubble and got the esata version, I couldn't get to power up without also plugging in the usb cable.
