a) Check for malware. Use ProcessExplorer to see what processes take CPU time, and what application they belong to.
b) Try to minimize the number of autostarting application to the necessary minimum. Use msconfig to configure which applications autostart.
c) If no malware, let it be for a few days/up to a couple of weeks. Right after the install Vista does a lot of stuff (automatic updates, learning user behavior for more efficient application prefetching, etc.)
Post back if this doesn't solve your issue.

I noticed after one clean install I made that Windows Sidebar was taking 50% of my CPU, check what gadgets your running if your using Sidebar.

I have the G50vt X5 and it does seem to be all over the place at first. Like E.B.E. said it is doing a lot of learning.
Now I also know that this version comes with a lot of crapware that can run amuck. IIRC there are 78-80 processes running on first boot up before cleaning. Now I sit at about 64 processes after uninstalling a bunch of the crapware. I used PC Decrapifier and it worked well... -
