    i am thinking about buying a U46sv from gentech, just wondering if i should leave the original HDD ( 640GB 5400rpm 2.5-inch 9.5mm 8MB SATA II 3Gb/s (Standard) ) or customize it to 750GB 7200rpm 2.5-inch 9.5mm 16MB SATA II 3Gb/s [+ $75.00]

is there gona be a boost in performance, and does that boost really worth the extra $75 and the possibly complication in the warranty. Will getting the HDD customized affect asus warranty ?

Warranty won't be affected. But do not customize it. You can make aftermarket upgrade on that 75$ and buy another one 7200 16MB cache hard drive while the first one stays with you.

BTW Even more. You can buy small SSD and 2-nd HDD caddy and replace it with optical bay. So you will have both SSD and HDD.

^^^ Really good idea IMO. I would not go for a 7200 RPM drive in your case; no pun intended. small SSD (someone just posted he got an 80 Gig intel SSD for around $100 US ;not the latest but certainly adequate) and seconday HDD ... USB stick with win 7 (ask ken lee to throw one in)
BTW GR8 choice of retailers, I have not read 1 bad thing about them in 18 + months - just good stuff.
