i just wanted to say hi and that i'll be joining you in a few days when my unit arrives from newegg.
this decision has taken me three months and finally i can't wait anymore.
i've owned nothing but DELL notebooks (inspiron 7000, 7500, 8600, 9300) and one gateway notebook since 1998 and gaming has always been a priority.
honestly, i was afraid to venture out beyond DELL and well, my intial reaction to ASUS was "oh that's a cheap brand" and "they must not sell a lot since i never heard of ASUS and since they don't sell alot, their laptops must not be built that well".
i have finally come out of that ignorant way of thinking and read many of your posts as well as reviews on other message boards and review sections.
i really hope this is the right decision. i have yet to find a 15 inch notebook that seems to perform better (on paper) for gaming.
i just ordered total war II so i hope this laptop can handle it!
i bought it from newegg for a little under 1700. i figured that seemed like a good deal compared to a dell vostro i was trying to configure.
thank you ASUS owner! i hope i am as happy as you!

mine will be here tuesday!! the excitement is unbearable. im considering driving around town looking for fedex trucks to get mine sooner.
-
hi! how much and where did you buy your's? gosh we're like both expectant mommies. -
Asus is not well known because the vast majority of the notebooks it produces are unbranded and sold to other companies like Dell. I remember seeing an article here a few months ago, for example, where Dell ordered 1 million 14.1" notebooks from Asus.
I like my G1S very much, but you need to know a few things about it:
the lid scratches kind of easily. Or rather, scratches show up easily. the lid's extremely glossy that even the tiniest scratch will show up. be careful, or get a lid protector.
The thing can get pretty hot, don't use it on your lap too much, if you block the air intakes on the bottom it'll get even hotter. The power adapter usually feels as though it's burning, so don't put it on carpeted floor.
The built in speakers are pretty horrendous, expect to use earphones or external speakers.
Otherwise, it's a wonderful machine. -
thank you for the reply. actually the speaker issue was/is still a big negative for me. i like sitting back at times on my bed and just taking my laptop with me on it and watch movies. i am a bit nervous as i know i must accept this as a con for this notebook.
one of the biggest reasons i chose this was for the ddr3 (spelling?) for the video card memory. -
welcome to the "G1s Brotherhood"

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Nice more Asus comrades. You'll see Dell is cheap compared to Asus quality.

Asus is nice, but avoid the A and F series. I personally have seen the A and F series on display and ... gosh, where the customers have touched a lot (the center of the touchpad mainly) the silver paint has worn off to show huge black blotches, and it looks absolutely horrendous.

i'm sorry, i ended up cancelling the order and purchasing a sager/clevo.
i was convinced that the 7950 gtx card would be better than the 8600m gt ddr3 card and well, the price is hard to complain about.
though i'm trying to convince my gf to by the g1s -
lol yeah the 7950 is better..but you wont get the flashy lighs
mmmmmm flashy lights XD -

Your going to miss out on the cool DX 10 stuff coming out this winter though.... And BTW, it can play Medieval Total War 2 on basically Max Settings on the max resolution on widescreen at 20+ FPS all the time...
