I think either the charger or the battery for my z33ae is defective. It took about 5 hours to charge the 3cell battery for the first time. 2 days later, after having used it for many many hours, it told me the battery level was at 10%. This is strange because i have NEVER unplugged it. It then started recharging. Do you think the battery or the charger is to blame, or is it worse?

Remove the battery and run the laptop with just the charger and see if it functions properly, if it does, then it's probably the battery going bad,

Also check to make sure the cord and connectors are not damaged. The plug that connects to your notebook's AC port sometimes gets damaged from too much bending.

Noxxle99, do what the above users commented, and re-test to get the same results you just did.

I once thought my laptop was plugged in and i started gaming for a little while, and realised that my games were running slow before you know it the battery runs out and i am surprised.

I quickly look at the plugs and cords and realised that the plug was slightly out of the outlet, just enough for the laptop to run on battery, rather than on, AC, so it may just be a simple human error like my situation.

If you have reseated the battery and made sure its locked from both sides then its your battery thats broken. Chargers dont really break that way especially if they run the laptop fine witht the battery removed.

And just to cover all bases--is your system plugged into a surge protector?

It is plugged into a surge protector. I am using it with the AC plugged in and no battery right now and it works fine. Im assuming the battery is at fault. Anyone know where i can buy a 3 cell? i never need more than 2 hours of battery life. A side note, that might be related, I put a celeron M processor in this machine (SL8MM) and it doesnt speedstep. http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/SL/SL8MM.html says it uses c0 stepping, does the z33a bios not support C0 stepping....?
