Your best bet is to purchase an external USB modem. They're about $10 on ebay.

really? hate having to connect something to the computer. looks like there is a spot on the back of the computer under the cover where one would go? looked on ebay and they do have asus minipci style modems on there. just thought if i could find someone that already had a g50 with modem to steer me in the right direction.

AFAIK nobody has added an internal modem, there is a jack but it's plugged with a piece of rubber. I'm not sure if any models actually came with a modem -- maybe some non-USA models?
David is right, it's probably easiest to just get a USB modem. They're cheap.
ASUS listed a modem on the specs, so I can see how you'd be disappointed. -
The modem on the G50 series doesn't use the typical mini PCI-e interface. It's more of a "screw it down to the motherboard and connect the cable" type.
Take a look at the G50 dissasembly guide for pictures (pg 2-23). -
why dang. wish i could get high speed. i'll look on ebay i guess

For the record, the original Best Buy model (ASUS G50Vm-X1) does come with a V.92 56K Modem in the port next to the 10/100/1000 Ethernet port. However, on other models, including the G50Vt do not possess modems and have been filled with a black placeholder where the RJ-11 port should be..

My G50VT-A2 (sold in USA by Amazon) also has an internal modem.
