I got a G1 with vista, and while that OS is pretty, lots of software I want to install just wont work, So I'm thinking going to XP.

I've seen the words XP pro thrown around alot on these boards, but i have a friend who will sell me an unused copy of XP home. So im wondering... is it really all the same to play games, do 3d work and photoshop?

Is XP home basically XP pro as far as preformance?

Would I be missing out on some important features if I went with XP home?

    thanks guys.

If you don't need to join a domain or have support for multiple processors and heavier security--opt for home.

All the same games and programs will run on pro and home, if you are able to get a price break from your friend home might be the best option for you.

That is correct, and Home gives you a little more overhead since it loads less services and components. I installed the PRO version just because I need IIS (Internet Information Services) running on my machine and Home does not offer that amongst other thing's like join a domain and such. So yes, Home is great for games, 3d and photoshop.

That's right..... xp home and pro basically only differ (at this point anyway - used to be many more differences years ago), but if you're not going to be on a domain controller, home is fine.

However, to find a G1 with either is pretty good considering in the US they came with XP MCE and then for the last two months they've come with Vista Home Premium.... never sold with XP Home or Pro...
