I have gotten this maybe once or twice a day. The screen freezes for a couple of seconds, turns black for a couple of seconds then turns back on and says that message, I though it was some one of a kind error at first but no.
1) Is it dangerous and will do permanent damage to my computer
2) It didn't happen with the stock drivers, so I'm guessing it's the drivers? ahhh but they are soo good for gaming and everyone said they are stable so
specs in my sig
pls explain all this
-
-
Mods pls move this to the gaming and graphics section
I have a feeling that it has something to do with the gpu. -

I suffered this once on my desktop. I overclock my PCI-E bus and it happens. Look like that your system cannot stand the overclocking.
-
I'm not overclocking
even though the asus g50vt a1 has a built in turbo button.
It was fine with the stock drivers on vista......
(Im running windows 7 rc 7100 right now....i cant remember if i had this same problem with the 186.03 drivers in vista or not) -
It could be that your gfx card is dying.
-
YOU BETTER KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT BECASUE YOU JUST SCARED THE **** OUT OF ME
Look, now
Vista + stock drivers = no problem
Vista + 186.03 = can't remember (I don't think this happened)
Windows 7 RC 7100 + 186.03 = happens maybe once or twice a day.
Are the 186.03 drivers stable
Please help now guys, Im freaking out that my gpu is busting -
...why don't you just try different drivers? I used to get this all the time with some 17x.xx drivers but not anymore, though I'm using the same series drivers as you.
Also, I would calm down lol. It's probably a software bug somewhere and we can at least be grateful that MS knows how to recover so easily from something that crashes. Probably from experience or something. -
I think If I was on vista, hell would freeze over if I ran into errors like this
Thank, you. If you got it before and your gpu is fine then I won't worrry about it......

LOL @ Your sig link
I got this message in vista on my previous laptop while running a game that obviously needed a better gpu, windows would think the game had frozen when it really had not and do that to me, was annoying as hell.
Oh yeah and i said vista, that errors does exist in vista along with 99% of the other ones you might encounter on 7.
Error under vista:
Due to Crossfire - http://img218.imageshack.us/i/crossfireerrorox8.jpg/
A different form of the error, in an actual dialog box - http://www.mattbirmingham.com/conte...Displaydriverstoppedresp_E430/nvidiacrash.jpg
-
but I'm glad Im not the only 1
Its not that big of a deal I was just afraid my gpu was dieing after buying the pc 5 months ago. -

Bah get off 186.03, use driver sweeper in safe mode, restart and install something esle 185.85 or dox 185.85 see if it keeps happening. Sounds like 186.03 which ive never run, might just have a little issue with your system.
EDIT - Also might have an issue with 7 in general, the most stable drivers would be those from windows update. -
You're encountering Vista's TDR - Timeout detection and recovery. When a display driver stops responding, instead of going into a bugcheck (BSOD) as in XP, WDDM drivers get restarted. A bad app can cause this (glBegin() without a glEnd() within the following 2 seconds for example). If it goes away when you change drivers then your GPU is OK, no need to worry.
-
Could just be a issue in Win 7 .... not everything works al peachy ... just food for thought

If the error is hardware-related, things would go worse. If in Vista with stock driver, your lappy runs flawlessly, why don't you got it back to that state?
And take a rest, man. You have an A1 model, which come with 2-year warranty. So that it's sure that your lappy will run for at least 1 year and 7 months. But from what I notice from my X3, G50Vt will surely last much longer.
-
I had that on my desktop once, but its fine. Funny thing is, it's an integrated card. lol?
And Clutch, did I see WoW in that pic? -
-
Hmm ive been getting this also with the 4850 and ATI with a small OC, apparently theres something wrong with CCC communicating with the GPU with ati, but not sure about Nvid.
-
Well iv gott A G50vt-a2 ,the same problem man my best advice take it to ASUS Support centre or join the (ASUS Forum) on : http://member.asus.com/login.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
iv been able to find some stable drivers better the the stock but it will end up with the same result
Hope that helps -
I need mine to last 3-4 years
btw: It hasn't happened lately. knock on wood.
I also ordered the zalman nc2000 to help the temps.
EDIT: well it happened again.....dangit, 186.03 makes games run SOOO much better than the stock drivers(which were 17somethin).... how are the 185.85 or dox 185.85 and where can I get them at? -
this might be the problem
I download and installed "vista" 186.03 drivers in vista. Then I upgraded to the Windows 7 RC 7100.
On the nvidia website they This 186.03 drivers for w7 64bit and this 186.03 drivers for vista 64bit......
should I install the windows 7 version? -
Try the Win7 version of the drivers and see if it helps. But MAKE SURE to use driver sweeper first to completely remove the driver before you install a new one.
And just to get this straight, you installed the new drivers in vista, then upgraded your os to Win7 without reinstalling any drivers? That could very well be your problem as well. You can get the 185.85 drivers from nvidia's page, probably under the archived drivers section at this point. Dox's drivers can be found at laptopvideo2go.com -
EDIT: Well i uninstalled the vista nvidia 186.03 and used driversweeper and all that then I installed th w7 nvidia drivers 186.03, Kinda odd though when installing it still asked me to overwrite something..hopefully that didn't mean anything...it's working good so far, I might 3dmark06 it later to see if anything is wrong.
If the problem occurs again then I think I'll try the 185.85 drivers -
-
happened again.....dang it
i guess ill try the 185.85 drivers tomorrow.... -
Turn TDR off, should be on microsoft website somewhere.
-
Hey Im having the same problems with my G50vt-a1 and im using dox 185.85 drivers....
-
I've been plagued with this for a month now. Can't play Battlefield Heroes or Neo Steam.
My GPU isn't even overheating.
It got bad with 186.03 drivers, but I rolled back to DOX 185.85 and it's still happening. I'm really getting fed up with Nvidia. -
It probably hardware issues, my games are jamming up over long periods of time now so i will put it in for warrenty.
-
it's a hardware issue?
ARG
I will format my computer before I send it in for warranty.....I can't go a long time without my computer.
I never had this problem in vista, I think in my case it's windows 7......I might switch back to vista
Mine has never interrupted a game yet though... -
Look, don't turn TDR off and don't assume it's a hardware issue. It could be HW or SW, if it doesn't occur when you change drivers then the HW is OK. TDR is A Good Thing, and disabling it isn't a very smart idea. TDR is the GPU version of "This application stopped responding"...
-
didnt work, i agree though best leave TDR on as a safe guard, but report the issues, its not your fault its theres, make dam sure they replace it!
-
are you running windows 7?
whats the difference between 185.85 and dox 185.85 drivers btw? -
Maybe you must read this http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=390274
-
It only happens maybe once a day and it never interrupts my gameplay......I can deal with it right now and it hasn't happened lately (when it does happen the screen shuts off for 5 seconds and then goes back right to where i was so it's not THAT big a deal...
I won't believe there is something wrong with the hw until this happenes in vista with multiple drivers...
Pretty soon Im re-installing vista anyway so I'll try then -
Well with my machine it happens with all drivers in vista
i am sending mine off so i can see if they identify any hardware issues.
-
is there anyway I can email asus about this problem?
-
RainMotorsports Formerly ClutchX2
If your back on vista and now having it then yeah go ahead. -
-
Not sure if it makes you feel any better//if it was mentioned in the thread already but I recently found someone who was having this same exact issue with an Intel 4500MHD integrated GPU, latest drivers and everything.
-
KNOCK ON WOOD
It hasn't happened once all day....ALL DAY
dangit watch it happne right after i post this lol -
RainMotorsports Formerly ClutchX2
LOL, yeah your probably good. I didnt really do any gaming on 7 did benchmarking though. Until dox released 185.85 i was using the whql driver from windows update for 7.
"display driver failed but recovered" ?
