hi all. i was wanting to know if i could overclock the memory(timings)/cpu on a asus g71v laptop? was wanting to get one w/ the intel qx9300 processor but 17" laptop is too big. i could deal w/ a 15" if one became available here.

I doubt any laptop manufacturer would ever allow that.

But... You can certainly use SetFSB to overclock your CPU in windows.

lol... Forgot about that! Anyways, Direct Console 2 allows you to overclock a bit.

This is what I get using Direct Console 2. This might vary because I have G50VT series.
    Option #1 [Normal]: 0% overclock @2.4Ghz
    Option #2 [Turbo]: 5% overclock @2.53.Ghz
    Option #3 [Turbo Extreme] 10% overclock @2.63Ghz

i see and thanks for the info. its just that i have an asus p5w motherboard for my desktop that has a ridicoulous amount of settings to adjust in the bios. the only thing i did was overclock memory though. lol.

If laptop manufactures were to allow people to overclock in BIOS, they'd receive bunch of lappies back for fix. :p

Anyway, why would you overclock the ram only? I'd downclock the ram and increase the FSB to get higher CPU clocks. Increasing the RAM will not impact much the performance of your PC in anyway, so yeah...

    My 2c...

Yes for dual core CPUs, but they disable CPU overclocking for Quad Core on G71Gx.

Which means you have to default back to SetFSB.

Strangely enough, the G51's Power4Gear Hybrid works on quads, as evidenced by the GenTech G51 videos.

yes G51Vx with Quad Core can be overclock in Power4Gear Hybrid, the G71Gx use TurboGear for overclocking.
