I bought my G1 in march...now that the G1s is out...I kinda regret buying the G1 and not being patient enough to wait for the G1s,it's not that this notebook is not satisfying enough but we always want more rite?well I'm very satisfied with this notebook but there is "a little" regret for not waiting patiently for santa rosa...
any G1 owner with same thought as me?

you wont be alone, but then as its been said on there a million times,
you'll never be happy as in the Pc business as we always find out whats coming next long before its out.
if you waited for santa rosa, you'd be upset when the next platform comes out (or 45um core 2 duo's) -
What did u pay for the G1?? When the G1s finally arrives in a week or so it'll be probably $500 more than the G1.
-
No regrets here, been with computers long enough to expect such things to happen. Got mine for under $1800 overnight shipped and am as happy as can be with it
Its a good computer and I hope to get atleast 2 years outta her. -
Even if you buy the G1s, the Penryn chipset is also around the corner. The G1s has no real processor speed increase(besides 5%-10% max), and is only graphically stronger.
-
Nope, no regrets here. Even if I got the Santa Rosa update, something better would follow it. Technology changes often, so no; I'm more concerned about the life of a product more than simply having the newest thing out there.
-
I think for intense gaming, you really should have waited until DX10 generation of 8600 series.
I bought a system w/ an X1700... but I only did that to run Vista as well as it could. -
i hear that santa rosa isn't very good.
from another thread
"Intel's Centrino platform has been the sum of a series of evolutionary steps, each building on a very solid foundation originally introduced in 2003. Each step along the way brought us new technologies, better performance, and longer battery life. Unfortunately, with such high expectations for constant improvements in performance and power efficiency, it's not too difficult to feel let down by Santa Rosa; there's simply no tangible performance improvement for the vast majority of applications. For the first Centrino platform with no major CPU enhancements, we have to look to the platform for the real attraction to Santa Rosa. "
They compared 2.4 Santa Rosa to 2.33 Napa...
"
Not only did boot times not improve with our Santa Rosa test platform (sent to us by Intel), but enabling Intel Turbo Memory caused the system to take even longer to hibernate than with it disabled:"
It seems like poor implementation or it just doesn't do much in it's current state. I'm thinking it's implementation, and it should atleast help disk operations by even 5%.. -
No regrets here at all.
Blimey.. I personally won't even consider upgrading now until DX10 graphics have "bed in" and all of Santa Rosa's features are being utilised and M$ Vista has had at least 1 major service pack/update. -

laptops from asus are generally refreshed 3 times year. If you wait to buy the g1s then you will feel equally bad when they roll out the new vga refresh...
-
nup, i am loving every bit of my new toy. heck if you waited for every bit of new tech, you'll be waiting for ever. and as i am an impatient bastard.......
-
No regrets here either. I've had it for four months now and I've put a lot of miles on it already
.
Tech is for filling your needs now. -
No regrets here either. I got my G1 for a very good price ($1970 CAD) back in January. From the looks of it, the only advantages of the G1s would be stronger graphics (although I don't know by what factor), directX 10 capability (which is good for the future, but currently useless; also, doubtful to be very useful in a laptop), and wireless N (which can be upgraded in the G1). I hardly think the CPU upgrade would even be noticeable. However, I'm also glad I got a G1 without Vista, so that's another consideration. In addition, I always like to wait a couple of months before getting a newly released model, just to make sure the major bugs get fixed, and so I can read some user reviews to get a better idea of what the unit is really like. So, all things considered, I'm very happy with my decision. I hope I've given you a few reasons to be happy about yours too.

i'm very happy with my G1. even better, my girlfriend is happy with my G1. not that that bothers me, it just gives her one thing less to moan at me about when it comes to my "toys"
(and that is an awesome price for a G1 btw!) -
No regrets here!
I really love my G1 and use it daily for games and work without any problems... It's a great machine!!!
However, I know that once I see a G1S running Crysis or Alan Wake at full resolution with full effects at decent framerates I would go out and get one, but of course real life DX10 performance on the G1S remains to be seen. -
OMG now that I see the price that fizikz payed, I payed $2,239.95 CDN at memoryexpress.com
ugh. And mine came with vista home premium, and lack of graphics drivers is making me sad, they are taking a very long time, how long will we have to wait? -
-
got my G2 for $2,000cdn and i could have bought the G1 for same
just gotta negotiate better and speak to the hungrier stores. -
well now that i can pre-order the g1s i feel happy now
-
I don't regret getting the G1 at all! I got it at a good time.. just before they upgraded to automatically putting vista on it. Now I have the option to keep Windows XP until Vista improves to a state where it's good enough to use, which may be never. But I still have that option.
You could wait for the new latest and greatest, but keep in mind most games and apps don't take advantage of that 5-10% increase that Santa Rosa and whatever else that comes out will give you. Those things will trickle down eventually, but if you wait to be the very cutting, bleeding edge of technology, you pay about 30% more for the bragging rights, and don't really get much use out of whatever new doodad comes out. I prefer to be about one or 2 steps behind the bleeding edge, where prices come down and I can afford more computer for my dollar. -

and if u plan on the G1s or G2s, just wait a week or so and get it here too. Best pricing ive found anywhere -
I got my G1 from NCIX.com after a hefty pricematch ($230 off their listed price at the time). I preferred to buy from them since I've been happy with their service and prices for several other purchases. Also, I was able to use my credit card for convenience without having to pay a premium. (Some stores advertise cash discounted prices, usually 2% or 3%)
mikeymike, that really is a great price. It's too bad that the price includes a 3% cash discount. It comes to $2000 without the cash discount. Either way, still a very good deal. Good find. -
this is the cheapest you can get a G1

I paid $2,188.60 CAD from Milestonepc after a price match, but I can't worry about that now. The price is always going to drop. -
It's still a little cheaper at http://www.pcvonline.com/productDetails.aspx?id=4629 -
As far as I can tell, the price in the link brian.hanna provided is in US dollars. Also, I would be a little cautious with cross-border purchases since duties may apply.
do you regret buying your G1?
