if so where is it? i'm thinking the vent on the back left is for the CPU right? i didnt notice any other fans running... maybe thats why my temps jump to 110 when playing warcraft
-
The heatsinks for both the CPU and GPU both run to the same vent. So that one fan cools both the CPU and GPU all in one go. You could try what some have done here. However I do not have a laptop cooler and when I tried this a couple months back my hdd and wireless card both got fairly hot.

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
If the cpu fan doesn't run after some time playing wow, then you have a problem with the BIOS/ACPI control over the fan and that's not good - you should contact Asus about RMA warranty work. -
"you should contact Asus about RMA warranty work."
Before doing that and only IF the fan does not run, I would first try:
ACPI reinstall
BIOS update/rewrite
and if necessary, complete OS recovery -
no no, theres definitely a fan running, its loud as hell too hehe. i thought there was 2 fans, one for the cpu and one for the gpu.
nview
on another note, 3dmark05 and 06 only raised the temp to not over 90 (3-4 back to back tests). idle was 70
i'm thinking its the game...
P.S. a little off topic but i drop 300 marks (3dmark06) when plugged in vs battery mode (TM1and2 off via RMclock on both occasions)
scores were 3950 unplugged (running at 2ghz according to rm, dunno why) and 3630 plugged -
ok how would you describe the intensity of the air thats coming out the vent? when my fan goes nuts i can barely feel the hot air blowing out
-
-
i can hear the fan spinning like crazy, but the air is not blasting out. i can barely feel it when i put my hand like 2-3 inches away from it, and i can only feel heat at 5 inches (no air)
is something blocking the airflow? this is a brand new laptop
P.S. all while my temps are in the triple digits -
Yes it does seem that something is blocking the airflow. I would open up the computer and check if everything looks "right" on the inside.
Maybe try removing the tapes on the vents that other people have removed. There is a "great way to cool your G1S" thread where you can find more info on this. Some people have found that it increases temps in other regions on the laptop however. -
this is frustrating, i'm just going to send it in.
i hope they have good rma service. -
Make sure they understand the problem properly when you send it in. Otherwise they might just change something like the FAN, "OK" it, and you would receive it in the same state.

when i requested rma for my other asus it was standard overnight
at least thats good.
i'm sending this one in as soon as the other one is back. i'm telling them not to send it back if the temps read triple digits after 10mins of wow idling. i hope one of them has an account hehe.
3dmark doesnt raise the temp for some reason. actuially, i tried atitool yesterday to get a second reading on the temp, and that small artifact scanner shot the temp up 110 within 5 mins
i'm probably demanding a bigger ac adapter too. it's come to my attention that when i have the TMs disabled thru RM and play a game while charging, it charges REEALLYY slow. i'll have to test it some more though. -
Anyone have experience with Asus Canada when RMAing?
-
Not Canada - But my experience was a nightmare. Most unprofessional pieces of $&!+ I have ever dealt with. They even yelled at my Mom for no apparent reason, ha.
-
Was this in the US?
-
yes, this was in the U.S. I was thinking of editing my video BIOS with Nibitor so that the heat thresholds for fan boost could be lowered and thus the fan would automatically rev up when the gpu was getting hot; however Nibitor does not support this GPU yet (I've asked them to add support, but that's another story). Anyways, I guess the video BIOS is not dedicated and is actually a module within the system main BIOS. Do you think it would be possible to enable adjusted fan control via the video BIOS module, even if Nibitor does actually add support? Or would I better better off looking for help with system BIOS professionals instead of video BIOS editors? I'm starting to think that enabling fan speed controls to associate with GPU temps. and not just the CPU temps. is a little more complicated than just editing the video BIOS instructions, and that is why ASUS and other manufacturers have yet to enable the function in their graphics performance notebooks... What do you think?
does the G1S GPU have a fan?
