It seems that whenever i'm running my z81sp on battery power, the framerate on all of my games is ****.

Is there something wrong with my computer or does the z81 do this on purpose in order to save power and extend battery life???

I don't have an Asus but my Compaq v4000t does the same thing when running on battery power. I am not really sure how to improve it.

Hey Eddie, weird thing about disabling power saving in the bios for the LCD.

I did it on mine so I could have the brightest screen possible at all times, but whenever I check the screen brightness by increasing the brightness it dims it if it's already at the top.

    Weird no?

Wouldnt it be easier to just adjust the power4gear setting to the game setting or the maximum setting under battery. This should give you close to a/c performace, although battery life will decrease.

I have not noticed this problem with my Z81, until I messed around in the Nvidia control panel which allows you to adjust how much power the GPU should use. I turned mine to power saving becasue, I don't need to game if I need to use it on the battery (hey it preserves a little bit of power) and if this is the case, slide that bar to max preformance.

One problem could be the settings in the Nvidia Control panel. Mine was set to max preformance for both battery and AC. When I unplugged my notebook when I had the battery GPU settings to maxium preformance, I did not notice any frame drops at all. If you set the bar to power saving and you unplug it, the GPU will come to a craw.

I say try adjusting the battery settings in the Nvidia control panel adn if you really wnat to game to battery, set the bar to max preformance which will no doubt suck down the battery life faster.

As Eddie said, try playing around with the power save in the BIOS and also make sure you Power4grear. when I have been gamming on battery, my power4grear was set at high preformance.

I am using the OEM nvidia drivers and a Beta BIOS on my Z81sp.

the OEM ASUS Nvidia drivers should be on your ASUS driver's CD or you can go to www.ASUS.com and download the nvidia Drivers for the Z81sp. Technically, the Drivers should already installed on your PC otherwise viewing WSXGA+ resolution would not be possible.

To access the nvidia control panel, just right click on your screen and select Nvidia display and select laptop display(or what ever comes up) and that should take you to the control panel. in the left pop-up window you should see lots of diffrent options and the option that you want to adjust is the powermiser (I think that's what it's called) where you can adjsut the preforance settings for AC and battery power.

I hope that this information helps.
