i just got my V1SN, the laptop itself looks great and really fast. The display looks vibrant and nice with pictures and movies. However, the screen looks a bit grainy on the white background to me. I did a side by side comparison with my old Dell 2001FP screen by displaying the same picture (the left one is Asus V1SN, right one is dell LCD) ... does it look grainy to you guys?
ps. the asus display is Samsung SEC3346 (may be im biased with the samsung brand after reading all those threads about grainy screen made by samsung)

I really can't tell from that picture sorry.
I also bought the V1sn with WSXGA+ but unfortunately it was a bit grainy, enough to be annoying. I?m now waiting for a replacement.
I suggest if you don't feel confortable with it just make them replace it. -
hi merlin, are they going to replace your screen with the same resolution or are u going for the wxga+ one?
-
Hi merlin, have u got the LCD replacement on your V1SN? Im also getting annoyed by the grains on the screen when working in word or doing web surfing ... and the white is never not that white on my screen comparing to all other laptops in my office !! I know some dell users can get a replacement for the LCD coz of the grainy problem ... has anyone owing a asus got a replacement for your laptop before? thanks

Still nothing here, I've been told that there are good samsung WSXGA+ screens for V1Sn, but accordingly to the guys who sold me mine every single one they've seen had that problem.
I was going for WXGA+ but apparently here in Portugal that model is not available, even the ones that say they have it ends up beeing the other way around.
They are now seeing if it's possible to put another monitor (a good one) in the laptop, if not I'll have to start searching again -
Well, I own a G1S-A1 (for 6+ months now) and have the samsung/sec3346 screen and yes it is grainy. I talked with asus technical support and first he did not accept that there is anything wrong with the screen, but as soon as I told him that the screens were 6 bit, he said that those screens are for a purpose - that is to give you faster response times. I requested for screen changed to one of 8 bit LG Philips screen to which replied they don't change screens unless something was really wrong and that they can only replace it with the same quality of screen prescribed for G1S! He wanted me to send my laptop to asus. But since I need my laptop daily (only PC/comp. I've got) I didn't send it. Guess I have to live with it.

according to LG-Philips and Samsung websites, both of the WSXGA+ displays are 6 bit.

http://www.samsung.com/global/busin...pper_fmly_id=601&fmly_id=611&partnum=LTN154P1
However, the LG one has higher luminance (200 to 185) and faster response time (16 to 25ms) ... Samsung one has higher contrast ratio (600:1) ... i think that's why ppl always report the LG one is brighter.
The screen is not too bad, it is vivid and sharp when displaying color image (need to do a bit tuning in the nvidia control panel though). The weakness is on displaying the white background, it looks not really white and a bit grainy ... it seems that the grainy is caused by the glossy coating being too thick. Just done side by side comparison with my colleague's new Lenovo T61, pictures will be uploaded later. -
Furthermore, I have no idea what it stands for. If you have any knowledge about 6 bits please enlight -

here this site as simple explanation. Normal users shouldn't notice the difference and if they want to game the best choice are the 6-bit screen since their faster.
But some people do care (people who need the colors to be dead accurate for example). An example of that was the lawsuit apple setlled a while ago.
does this LCD look grainy to you?
