hi all,
i have a lot of questions regarding the driver (noob here).
btw it's the one in the g51 optimization guide.
1. is it still the best driver out there for gaming?
2. will it have powermizer? my g60's gpu never downclocks currently.
3. what is the difference between x64 and x86?
4. how do i reboot into safe mode properly?
5. finally lol, should i want to switch back to official driver, what do i do?
thx in advance

1. will i don't know but you should install the official because it new the DOX driver is too old
2. will yes i think the new official you can switch on or off in nvidia control panel
3. a lot i don't that much but the important thing is if you have 4gb of ram or more you shoud get x64
4. when you start the pc just keep pressing F8 not long press repetitive press until black screen show you option to do select Safe Mode
5. uninstall current driver reboot install new driver form nvidia site then
reboot and vola all donei recommned install latestet PhysX
any more Q PM Me -
I am running NVIDIA's x64 195.62 on Win7 currently.
To answer your questions:
1. Dox's driver is still a good one but if you are running Win7 you are probably better off upgrading to 195.62 since it has some DirectCompute and Physx optimizations and has been tweaked for some of the newer games.
2. I don't think Dox's Drivers have Powermizer stuff built in but if you install a specific driver and want to switch your powermizer setting use this application.
3. the x64 and x86 drivers are OS dependent. If you are running a 64-bit OS use the 64-bit drivers and the x86 drivers for a 32-bit OS. I would not recommend mixing and matching as it may a) not be supported b) have bad consequences.
4. To reboot in safe-mode, as Halo said, after you bios loads up press F8 to drop into the OS boot options to run in safe mode. I have made driver related changes in Normal Mode without any issue so Safe Mode is not really necessary.
5. See below.
Here is what I do to update my NVIDIA drivers
1. Uninstall all NVidia products and drivers.
2. Run Guru3d DriverSweeper to remove any remnants of driver/registry entries.
3. Reboot
4. Install NVIDIA's 195.62 drivers
5. Install NVidia System Tools (only the Performance Tool for overclocking) - Optional
6. Update your DirectX - Optional
9. Reboot
That ensures that the drivers you have are up to date and you have PhysX installed. Hopefully this helps. -
Dox driver also doesn't support the new Flash beta 10.1 hardware video acceleration.

thx for the answers
really appreciate it. -
with the G51, best driver I've used so far is the 186.82.... good game performance, newer than the DOX driver, and downclocks properly when not gaming. No other driver I've used will downclock properly when just doing normal everyday stuff at the desktop.... which keeps temps down and increases battery life quite a bit.
