I have a 500 GB external HDD with USB and eSATA. When I first got my G1s I plugged the HDD in via eSATA and transferred a ton of data. Today I tried to hook the HDD up again (via eSATA as well) and when I plugged in the cable my G1s started lagging really badly and froze, forcing me to hard-reboot : (

    Anyone have any ideas?

Oh and I know the drive is good because USB works perfectly fine.

Did it work after reboot? I heared some eSATA drives are not hotplugable. Means you need to have it pluged in before you boot.

If I boot up with the eSATA drive plugged in and turned on, the G1s takes forever to boot up. Sounds are dragged out and distorted, and there is a lot of lag. Please help, I don't want to settle for USB! :(

Plug the eSATA cable in after the notebook has booted. I have no problems with my eSATA drive. Right click the drive letter and click "safely remove" before disconnecting the eSATA cable.

Check the eSata cable? Switch the sides?

    Bios Settings?

Try another enclosure. Sounds like bad interface electronics. Perhaps you have a SATA II drive and SATA I interface???

How do I know if my eSATA cable is bad? I tried switching the sides... but no luck.

I'm not sure how to access the BIOS in Vista.. I tried f8, f10, and f12 and couldn't load it.

I would try another enclosure, but I don't have one, nor does any one else I know.

I looked around in the BIOS...nothing. I think I might buy a replacement eSATA cable from Newegg, see if that helps. If not, I'll RMA my enclosure I guess. :(

VERY IMPORTANT: install the eSATA driver available for download from the ASUS G1S driver site.

I think the e-sata performance will get better, we just need better drivers.
