I recently purchased a 500gb sata hard drive with an external enclosure hoping it would work with my G2S-A1 and hold most of my data. After installing all the drivers from the vista driver page( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=100357) I still can not seem to get the eSATA drive to work.
I've looked in BIOS to check if the drive is recognized, however if it should be in there then I do not see it. It does however work with the usb ports.
The enclosure I purchased is here: http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=012711&cid=516

You do have the external power plugged ?? and using the esata (must be /esata
cable as far as drivers I did not install any just plugged it in and found it unmounted in vista drive mgr -
Yes it is plugged in. I still don't see it in my computer. The eSATA HDD is partitioned already as a NTFS logical partition(works with usb2.0 but not eSATA). It doesn't show in device manager under disk drives or anywhere else in device manager as far as i can see(when using eSATA).

If it's not seen in the BIOS, it's probably a hardware issue. This could mean anything from a bad eSATA cable (are you using the cable that came with the enclosure? Is it plugged in firmly?) to a chipset issue. Might try jumpering the drive into SATA150 mode as some people have reported their eSATA issues resolved with this.

How would I go about jumpering into sata150 mode? Yes it is plugged in firmly and I am using the cable that came with the enclosure

There should be a jumper setting on the back of the hard drive for enabling SATA150 mode. So you'll need to remove it from the enclosure and set the jumper accordingly, then put it back in the enclosure. Check the hard drive manufacturer's website for the proper jumper configuration.
eSATA with the G2S
