it turns out the s96j has an issue where if u dont install the camera just right it wont work. i tried calling powernotebooks for a fix, and they said (quite honestly) that its a known issue and u have to reinstall windows and install the camera a specific way to fix it. well the camera wasnt that important to me so i just monkeyed around to see if i could fix it. it turns out if u go into the device manager and remove the device, then go to add hardware, the cam will be instantly recognized and work properly. i told powernotebooks so they can give this information out, and just wanted to share it here for anyone who may have bought elsewhere and have this problem.

Great thank you for the news.

So just remove it, and then add it, from the device manager, but do you need the drivers to install it again?

Or does windows automatically install it? Or since the driver are already installed, remove and add it just works?

    Thanks,

for me i removed it, i clicked add hardware, comp announced it found the camera, then it said i had to insert the disc, i did so, and the next thing i knew the cam was working, im assuming when i inserted and hit ok it finished installation of the proper drivers. sorry i wish i would have paid more attention so i could explain it better

Well, it worked for me kinda. Now at least it takes pictures, but they're just gray. I'm sure there's an easy fix for this.

I thought it could be fixed by a Windows Update?

Maybe someone might wanna check the critical updates and well as the optional updates. :)

I originally had the same grey picture problem. All you need to do to solve it is insert the ASUS drivers disk->go to my computer->right-click D:->explore->camera->bison->2ksetup. It will install the camera properly.

lol thats funny. 2ksetup.exe is the exact file powernotebooks told me not to install, they told me to run setup.bat after a clean install. but hey if it works for u, it works for u. kindof like i guess my fix isnt fixing many other peoples cams
