I was just looking at those eee PC babies, and I could get me a small one.
However:
- 901 has some slow SSDs with 25MB/s read and not much space anyways (still 0.6mS access time though). I guess I cold get me some bigger card (uhh 32GB max ?)
- 904HD does not have wireless N. I don't need the bluetooth that much, but my wireless network at home runs on N mode only, so N is much wanted.
- 1000H is too big
or shall I wait for some new model to emerge ?

this forum looks dead :| .. or I must have asked something highly technical, lol
anyways, out of what I found, it may be possible to put 1.8" HDD in 901, which would solve all problems -

I have not seen any pictures of the underside of the 904HA but suspect that wireless card can be changed via the panel. You can on the 1000HA and it pretty much is the same chasis. Which leads me to your point about the 1000H being too big...the 904HA is pretty much the same size as the 1000H/HA but with a smaller screen.
There is not much discussion here on the Eee. You might also want to check out the eeeuser forum:

Why don't you get a 900HA? It is small, has 1gb of ram, Windows XP, and has a fast 160gb hard drive. It is also only $350. Here is my run with HD Tune on my 900HA:
