I recently did a clean install of windows 7 64 Home Prem (Asus A52F-XE2), and let windows install all the drivers (I did install the latest chipset drivers from Intels site).

But the ethernet controller still has a yellow "!" next to it, under "other devices".

Does anyone know what this is? I checked the download section under "wireless" on the ASUS site for the A52F, but there are 6 different downloads. wasnt sure which one I'd need.

The network adapter says Atheros AR9285 Wireless network adapter btw, if that matters.

    Thanks a lot.

For the wireless, you need the azurewave drivers, there might also be a list of compatible devices, i'd look for it too. These drivers should work for the wireless: ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/nb/Drivers/WLAN/WLAN_Atheros_Win7_64_Z921432.zip. Given the title of your post, is it the wireless or wired (ethernet) network adapter that isn't working? You start by saying you have problem with the ethernet controller, but then list the wireless adapter which are two completely different pieces of hardware.

You are correct. Its the ethernet controller. I got that mixed up with the wireless adapter.

Here's a screenshot from my device manager. thanks.

Well, you need to know what is the model and manufacturer for your ethernet controller. Chances are it's a Realtek or Atheros controller, check in the device's properties if windows doesn't recognize it. Someone else with the same model as you could find out or Asus could tell you if all else fails. Did your laptop come with a driver disc?

    got this from device properties.
    PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_0250&SUBSYS_19051043&REV_03

looks like it could be this "JMicron JMC250 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet"

I found these using your link LAN_JMicron_JMC251_Win7_32_Win7_64_Z60276.zip it says JMC251 instead of JMC250? Guess it should work though?

edit: ok, installed those and it seems to have worked. thanks again for your help!

Just registered to say my thanks, though that link isn't working I was able to find that driver on Jmicro's site:
