    Greetings,

I have a six month old Asus z96js with the American Megatrends BIOS and a Core Duo processor.

(I can't remember the exact time frame when problems started) About 2 months after getting the machine, it started to ask me to enter the BIOS, via F2, in order to reset the time. If I don't set the time, then the time starts at 12 noon/midnight of the previous day. Some observations:

    1. This problem always happens every morning after the computer is turned off over night.
    2. The date is always a day behind as well.
    3. If the computer is off only a short period of time, then it isn't a problem...usually...but not always.
    4. If the computer is left on for extended periods of time, I haven't noticed any gradual time or date loss.
    5. I've tried booting into Safe Mode and running several anti-virus/spyware removal programs...and I did remove some garbage...but the problem still exists.

As you can tell, I would like to repair it on my own, but I am running out of ideas.

I've done a ton of research on-line and tried everything I can think of, short of replacement of the CMOS battery. Since, I have built my own desktop computers and am technically skilled and comfortable enough to try and disassemble the computer in order to replace the CMOS battery. I am considering that option.

In fact, I am downloading the video from this site pertaining to the z96js as I write this message. I hope I can find in it what I need in order to understand how to reach the CMOS battery.

First though, I want to exhaust any other options and suggestions that anyone might have. So, if you have any suggestions that might help me solve this problem, I would greatly appreciate your input.

FYI: The reseller has offered to repair the problem and I would let them. However, I am very dependent on this computer for work and I haven't found a block of time that I could send it back to them for repair, nor do I anticipate that I will be able to find time before the end of January or February next year...maybe. That is why I am tempted to try any suggestions, especially since this is a nagging problem that I fear is getting worse (shorter periods of time before time loss occurs).

    Regards,
