    hi to all,

    need your advice to classify the included / pre-loaded software on the asus F3SV;

    this will be my first laptop so i kinda future proofed it by buying the highest specs i can afford. my uses will be RTS games, internet and business apps (. so i will not remove vista (even if it sucks) because i wont have time to do it.

    type 1: very useful, essential. do not remove

    type 2: useful / has some uses. removal up to you

    type 3: totally useless, eats up too much resources. (my guess here will be the trial softwares)

    thank you.

    Well, I killed all the preloaded software, with the exception of the Asus tools used to alter color modes in Vista. (But soon I will be eliminating Vista as well ;) ). Certainly, the Norton AntiVirus Security Suite, Power4Phone, and programs like NBProbe (what is that??) and other things such as the Asus Security Suite don't need the fingerprint reader, just an added process which I don't want. Rather get some performance :)) So from 70 processes out of the box, I was able to get down to 50. Still not great at all, but it's better than having 20 more.

    I just took the vista reinstallation cd and cleared everything, then started it fresh. It runs much faster now even though I thought I got rid of most of the non-essential programs uninstalled before the wipe.

    so youre using just plain vista OS, all of the asus programs are gone.

    wish i could replace vista but i cant. with the time i dont have.

    a clean install from the included disk. not too technical and doesnt sound risky or time consuming. i can do this.

    but do you still have full functionality of all the laptop features.
    the webcam, the power mgt software, that fingerprint scanner, wifi and other laptop devices?

    if so what programs, if not vista itself, are running them?

    bottomline. (i guess everybody wants the same) i want to reduce the system load, removing un necessary programs will help. so the laptop will increase its efficiency and might run longer on batteries and probably cooler from the lighter load.

    thanks

    Don't think that is possible, unless you had you own Vista cd to do it with. The recovery disc brings things back to factory spec, not a clean install,.

    Can be done by not inserting driver CD.
