Hey guys I just bought my fsv x1 and it seems to only display 1280 by 800 max res, instead of the retail listed 1360 768 res. Also battery life is low, and is this dvd drive a light scribe or not, cus I am not sure, even though both the a1 and b1 are light scribe...

    I don't think F3 series have that kind of resolution (1360 x 768). Usually F3 comes with 16 : 10 widescreen aspect ratio, including 1280 x 800.

its great that you think that but it does come with a 16:9 screen as listed, so ya it is listed as that and yet the max resolution is 1280 by 800

    To be honest I never heard a notebook screen has a resolution of 1360 x 768. But I could be wrong... just checked ProPortable's site and it lists the SR version of ASUS F3 with a 1360 x 768. Strange... I always think that F3 has a 1280 x 800 or 1680 x 1050, which is 16 : 10.
BTW, with the 1280 x 800 res, do you think the display is right? I mean not stretched etc.

The F3SV has 3 versions with the 1360x768 being the lowest resolution. Its called WXGA, and the other 2 are WXGA+ and WSXGA+.

It could very well be the driver, since robo is right that the 1280x800 is more common and the driver may see WXGA and give you that resolution choice. Did you get the driver from the Asus site or the nvidia site? I think you're usually better off going with what Asus has up on their site.

Reinstall the driver. If that doesn't work, you should try getting a modded driver (through a modded INF) so you can force the maximum resolution the X1 can support but that you are not getting.

The driver is the preinstalled nvidia geforce 8600m gs driver, the preloaded one. I had a feeling that the driver was the cause, but unfortunatley the driver is the only one available for the 8600m officially, as of current. So you guys might be right, but I still question it since the 1280X800 resolution is comfortable, It looks good not stretched or anything. Then again the difference is minimal between the 1360X768 so I guess the two resolutions would work well on the same screen. I will look about getting my self a new driver, to check, because if the screen is only 1280X800 then that is the second misadvertised thing from Asus about this laptop. Also is the OD on this laptop Lightscribe or is that only on the a1 and b1?

I'd guess it's on all F3sv's, but I'd be curious to see what the X1 people have to say.

Well my X1 seems not to support Lightscribe. And nowhere am I finding that it is listed as a lightscribe DVD, so I guess it probably does not support it.

Thanks. Looks like the X1 is a bad more for the specs, screen, and money - compared to the A1 which is a good value + compromise.

I guess, but personally the extra 200 dollars I saved, (this include about another 150 for the A1, plus taxes here), I don't mind having a few missing options which I probably wouldnt use:

Screen Res: 1360 x 768 with proper drivers is not so much less than 1440 x900

Fingerprint reader: I would never use it. This is a personal laptop, so I am not so security happy. Besides I could just have a BIOS password if I am desperate.

Lightscribe: Its a nice feature, and if I had it I would probably use it, but you have to buy speical disks and I already have a ton, beside I have a label maker, so Lightscribe is not so necessary

ABGN: It is pre-n any way. The standard is still to be decided on. Besides I could easily buy a card off ebay later for about 20$, and I don't even have an N router. My internet connection doesn't ever exceed 20 mbps, up or down, so its pointless.

It is strange. If the screen is 1360x768 then 1280x800 should not be displayable. Atleast the 800 lines high wont fit on screen. Does the screen scroll up and down?

Resolutions vary. The only reason it might not be displayable is because the screen is supposed to be 16:9 not 16:10, but if you recall, monitors can display resolutions above and below their native res. So It might be ale to display 1280 x 800 but it should look weird.

They can display resolutions below native but not above. Move the mouse all the way up and down the screen. Does the screen move a bit?

No the screen does not scroll. But what you are saying is not true. They can display resolutions above. My 17" LCD has a native resolution of 1280X800 and it can display upto 2560 x 1600, it is just really small and looks awkard. I am going to call Asus and ask them about it.
