Hey all, I am in the process of buying an Asus F3sv-A1 laptop from newegg. This is based on all the research that I've done with my price range. While I've been looking at laptops for awhile now, there has been a consistent urge to upgrade RAM to at least 2gb for all new computers.
The only issue that I have is a) I am a hardware newb, and even though installing said RAM is supposedly easy, I am nervous. b) I am a little confused as to what upgrade could be compatible with my laptop. I did a quick search, and I found this Patriot 2gb stick. One of the reviews states that it works with the F3sv- b1. Does that matter that it is b1 instead of a1? If it won't work, then what will? And is that the correct upgrade to get for vista (I don't mean as a general investment, I mean is it the right kind)?
I'm new here, and I tried searching the forums and haven't come up with a straight answer. Thanks!

Yes it will work. Any DDR2-667 ram will work. You can get better prices by look in the Hot Ram Deals thread.
The same ram is availabe at Outpost.com(fry's electronics) for 99.99 with free shipping but there are cheaper one in the Hot Ram Deals thread.
I assume the F3sv-a1 has 1gb in there right now so depending the configuration(1 slot filled with 1gb or 2 slots filled with 512mb sticks) the 2gb will make it 2.5gb or 3.0gb -
Ohh, I see now. The F3 that I'm buying is right here and comes with 1gb. So, would the 2gb upgrade make it 3gb? Would I be better off just buying something that is only 1gb rather than 2?
Good point on finding other deals, I'll definitely check out the ones you mentioned. It was just that I had been on newegg for the actual laptop so I figured I'd search there.
Thanks for the input -
