so ummm, i was really considering buying this. my only complaint for just looking at reviews is the processor. slow as . i do a lot of music productions, photoshopping, and video editting, and am worried. what does everyone think?

also, i looked at the offical thread for it, and the first post...
    Code:
Touchpad is horrible and hard to click

Screen is the worst quality you can possibly get. Its really that bad- Likely the worst screen I have ever had/seen in a laptop.

Processor can overclock but is still Relatively weak even in "turbo" mode. Certainly not enough power for a full size laptop.

Very poor build quality. The plastic feels like crap and flexes and creaks all over the keyboard and screen. Its miles behind the Acer timelines and macbooks in this department. Truely feels cheap.
    really? that bad?

Sounds like an Asus hater to me...the touch pad is the best in the pc market, the screen is not that bad,the Cpu is far from weak as he calls it,It is an weaker laptop but the build quality is very good.
CPU speed is an joke of an selling point,at idle most processors run at 800mhz...that means that an 1.73 GHz Core 2 duo and an over clocked P8400 running at 2.8ghz are exactly the same speed outside of gaming and very intensive work, also the performance difference between an over clocked Su7300(UL80) and P8400(Macbook) is negligeable.
    but...

This is all variable on how serious you are about the video and photo editing part...

If you are real serious I would recommend overshooting mac's and Ul series laptops as they will not provide the power you want for this affordably.
Realistic real video performance on the mac does not happen till the 15inch Pro model with the 9600m GT and 1080p screen...thats well north of $1500...

This is the N61Jq...it is an 16 incher..but it was designed for video and photo editing, and at video editing along with picture work...it far out preforms both..
    ...1000$...
    It has the awesome i7 CPU,4Gb of DDR3 ram,an 1Gb ATi 5730,and an 1080p HD LED Screen...it is amazing.

If you don't bother with the Core i7, you can get some good 14-15", and there are some coming out in the near future.

The Lenovo Y460 and the ASUS N82Jv are the important ones. Both will have ~ Core i5-520M, and switchable graphics (Nvidia Optimus for the ASUS, in fact), with an HD 5650 for the Lenovo, and a GT 335M for the ASUS.

The Acer AS5740G is already out, and it's plenty powerful as well, but it's 15.6"

I play 1080p video files on my 13in MacBook just fine when hooked to my 21in 2048x1152 LCD

I read the same review as the OP, i think its actually a post on here. I was looking at the same Asus model. There is also a video on youtube where the reviewer says the button is a bit stiff and eh LCD isn't the best quality. A few other reviews also mention the LCD not being the best but "decent".

Sony CW is i5 with Geforce 330 and a decent screen with 1600x900 resolution.

Well, you might want to wait for the new Core i CULVs, because those will have Turbo Boost.
EDIT: Looked back and noticed you weren't looking for battery life and didn't need a CULV.

As such, just look for computers with Core i5 or Core i3 CPUs and you'll be fine.

The question is... is 1.7 an OC? or is the 1.3/1.6 just an underclock to save power?

No, they won't quite be up to the performance levels of the i series because of their much lower clock speeds, but they will definitely be faster than the old CULVs. Wikipedia has a list of Core i7 CPUs - it looks like there's a few i7 CULVs already out, though I don't think there's any laptops with them just yet.

Digging around a 1.3 is the base but it's designed to do 1.6. over that is considered an overclock but is within the capabilities of the CPU as so many companies are using it at 1.73 I'm sure intel has probably licensed it to do so.
