I just flashed the BIOS on my F3JP, the flashing went swell, but immediately after on rebooting it hangs at Error Loading Operating Sysytem

I've googled the problem and have traced it back to an XP error, which I can understand as I'm dual booting Vista, does that make sense?

My question/problem really is how can do you update your BIOS and keep the dual bootyness of your system? As it seems the XP error kicked in even before Vista or the OS selection screen kicked in?

    Cheers!

    Dual bootyness ROFL :D

I don't know about this error, but first make sure that in the BIOS, the HDD is the first device selected for booting.

Second, you could try flashing back the old BIOS and see if the OS boot works with it.

Third, you can boot from a Vista DVD with the recovery console and run fixboot and fixmbr... although I'm not sure whether that would keep the dual boot settings correctly, or it would just kill XP.

to be fair I was only flashing the BIOS as I'm about to frag the HDD and reinstall from fresh. And whilst collecting the Asus drivers I'll need from there webby I came across all the new BIOS and got sidetracked, I flashed it using your guide actually EBE (thanks for that!)

So luckily the whole recovery of stuff isn't an issue just an annoyance, as yeah the flash went perfectly and all the BIOS settings for boot devices are correct, it must be down to where I choose boot from Vista/XP that XP takes over and gives an error.

Oddly the fix to the problem for most is to update the BIOS!

I'm really just wondering if anyone else is dual booting and ever tried updating their BIOS!

I have F3jp with both Xp and Vista intalled and I have done bios flashing before without any such issues.

Which bios version did you flash to?
I have seen ASUS has released v209, but I have not updated mine.
My machine is still on v208.

I went to the latest V209

How had you set your dual booting up? I was using a preinstalled version of Vista with XP tacked on afterwards, so my bootloader (think thats the term) was a bit messy, don't think that helped.

If I had both discs for each OS and had installed both properly, I guess I'd of had fewer problems. Decided to go back to XP for the time being anyway now. Just looking for a alternative to Power4Gear, but ideally would like to keep the Asus power buttons in the top right corner.

RMClock = alternative to Power 4 Gear

(there are also XP versions of Power 4 Gear for older laptops, you should find one on support.asus.com -- if you really like it)

I've been reading around about RMClock and NHC and yeah, all I really use it for is to have a loud setting and a quiet setting aka browsing on the battery or gaming!

The one thing that impressed me when I first got the F3JP was the swish looking overlays for adjusting the volume and the power setting, is it those graphics that are part of Power4Gear, and the audio ones? where are they from?

    Cheers!

Those are ATK OSD. The background program that intercepts hotkeys and triggers the graphics is ATK Hotkey. In older versions for WinXP, they are combined into one utility called ATK Hotkey, I think.

Depends on your preference, but they're pretty minimal background tsr's.
