    Hiya there !
i have an asus m51vr notebook with a max resolution of 1280x800. Is there a way to force it to say 1400*x or anything?
    Thanks

    technically you can...
but the picture will be chopped off (you will see 1280x800 of the 1400x900)
so, what you are asking... no

no. If you could just force the higher resolution using software, the companies wouldn't offer a higher resolution monitor as an upgrade option that usually costs a good $150.

You can try installing a higher resolution monitor. That's about it I'm afraid.

thanks for the info guys and gals (if there are any hahah). hey, the way i see it is that we gotta be happy with what we have. I swear though i saw some monitors that could be forced with higher resolutions (probably crts or something)

There is software that you can use to crunch your resolution to fake a higher resolution, but you lose detail. It's not exactly 'forcing' higher resolution, since it's a physical limitation on LCDs. A pixel is a pixel is a pixel, all the way down :)
