    function keys don't work on N53SV1

    Yes another issue with my laptop from hell... i haven't gotten around to dealing with it even though it's been like this from day 1. Instead i've been adjusting the volume by clicking the tiny little icon at the bottom right of the screen, yes i'm retarded.

    f11 gets me full screen, f1 brings a useless help window. The rest of the function keys don't do any of the things depicted by their icons (brightness, sound, disable touchpad, etc), when i hit it along with the "fn" key. It works on my other asus laptop, but not here. WHY?

    Have you tried installing the ATK Package, it's needed for the Fn keys to work, if it's already installed, sounds like a corrupted installation, uninstall and reinstall.

    i did a clean install from a windows 7 iso. Where do i get the atk package?

    On the asus support page:
    ASUS - Notebooks- ASUS N53SV
    ..if the link doesn't warp you there: windows-64bit->utilities->atkacpiutil... something, ~8mb.

    Or, the driver install disc that came with the manual, and so on.
