so my screen a couple of times now has developed this fuzzy red pixels (like old tv static) in black areas of my screen, I also think it downgraded the color of the screen to 16 bit. Some suggestions I have read around the web have been that its the LCDs fault, the vid card fault, or the connection between the two (eg something is loose) I was curious if anyone else can shed light on what this is.

it gets better if I turn it off and turn it on again, or if I turn off the screen and then back on. Another suggestion is that it might be power related? I think it occurred when I was on low battery both times (my old w3j barely lasts 20 min now)

The fact that it dissapears upon power cycling the screen, suggests it is not the connection.

To eliminate connection problems, I would suggest a disassembly, and then unplugging the LCD coax cable and plugging it back in (on both sides). If there is a defective cable you may need to replace it. But this would only work if indeed the connection is the problem and not the screen itself.

I am begining to think it is a connection some where as if I tap it, or move the hinge it changes intensity. Do I need to take it all apart to get at this connection?

so to bump my own issue...

it turns out it is the cable connecting the lcd to the motherboard that has failed. So i need a new one, where do you get one of those?

It's not on the estore.. closest I found was the inverter board which probably doesn't come with the cable... might have to call asus and have them send you the part by special order (if it's possible)... good luck
