It's no secret that most laptops are designed and manufactured by companies like Clevo or Quanta, and not the PC vendor who's name is on it. When shopping around you can usually spot similar laptops, but the G1 seems fairly unique in design. I'm curious if anyone knows if this is a true Asus design? If not, any idea who makes this?

Yep, it's Asus' baby. Asus is an OEM in the first place. Their own Ensemble notebook line is designed by Asus.

I was hoping Asus, seeing how they build computer components, would have designed this themselves. Glad to hear they did. It's a slick system... Asus rocks.

Yeah, all Asus systems are designed by Asus themselves, because as said above, they are an OEM just like Quanta and Clevo.

That's right, they make Ensemble units, which are pre-configured laptops from Asus. But they also sell whitebox, Built on Asus, Powered By Asus.

Like the ever popular, S96J and Z96J.

If you want to see some pictures of the G2 and G1 together other notebooks have a look at this, and more reviews my sig.

Yeah, so far I'm loving my ASUS G1...

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but ASUS it's not an OEM per se... It's right term is ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) isn't it?

Nevertheless, it's a great brand even though it's not known by most people. :\

OEM stands for "original equipment manufacturer."
ODM stands for "original design manufacturer."

    Asus does both.
