I tried to play battlefield 2 at 1400x1050 with medium setting using my g1 but it lags so badly that I must change the setting to 1024x768 and low setting for it to run smoothly.I thought that the G1 is capable of playing battlefield at least at medium to high setting. Is it because I have 1 gigs of ram and using vista?

You can tell that by looking at the HDD light. If it's blinking steadily, then it's swapping and it's clearly RAM. If it's off, then it's the GPU/inefficient drivers.
-
I think vista is sucking my ram and I do think that another giga of ram is neccessary...anybody have the same problem?
-
It really shouldn't be a problem. I second the RAM comment, or try other drivers?
-
yea, if someone else with similar specs and xp is playing fine, Im pretty sure it's the drivers. Drivers are still under development.
-
I really hope there is some sort of driver problem under Vista, because Ghost Recon Advanced War Fighter lags like crazy even at 800X600 Medium settings!!!
I'm downloading all Win XP drivers so I can "upgrade" again to Win XP!!! LOL!!!
Cheers!

I for one can attest to the fact that gaming in Vista, no matter which driver you use right now, will hinder performance greatly.
Last night I installed Need For Speed UG 2 and NFSMW, both with latest patches. I am dual booting XP Pro and Vista Ultimate (this is on my desktop, I'll come to BF2 in a moment - just I did this last night so I remember vividly what happened). Basically both games installed fine on both OS's, but in both games I wanted to run at 1280x1024, with medium settings. XP could handle it fine, no frame loss at all, no lag, but Vista could not - it lagged immensely at higher resolutions. at low res the framerate was pretty similar. Because the GFX card becomes the bottleneck at higher res and the fact that Vista drivers are not up to par quite yet, means that you will experience lag in gaming in Vista. My advice, switch to XP for gaming (dual boot - make sure you install XP first) and then just use Vista for other things. (This was on a desktop with Nvidia GF 7300 FYI)
About a month and a half ago, I had Vista and XP dual booted on my laptop (S96J w/ T7200 and X1600 mob) as well, and installed BF2 w/ latest patch on both OS's. Same thing - lower framerate at higher res for Vista than XP by a considerable amount (seemed about 30-35% slower in Vista). As rhcpcrony stated, the drivers are still under development. Game in XP for now.
The RAM shouldn't have an effect that large. One thing you might want to try is to switch to classic mode (might improve framerate very slightly in Vista). Both the XP and Vista drivers were the latest downloaded from either nvidia or ati in the scenarios described above. -
I have 2 gigs of memory and I'm running the newest driver from nvidia using the laptopvideo2go modified file and I can run BF2 with all settings maxed out with no lag. I have 2 gigs of memory, and I can also run 2142 at max settings no problem.
P.S. I'm also running Vista -

if I'm installing driver from laptop video2go,which one should I install?Shoul I uninstall my current driver first?
-
I have tried to install the newest driver but it got slower...I don't know what happen but this happen only to bf2...I can play far cry and cod2 with max setting just fine...anyone ever tried running bf2 with vista and 1 gig of ram?did bf2 eat a lot of ram resources?

I'm buying the asian version so it only came with 1 gig of ram...I have installed oblivion and this game run smoothly which seems so strange to me because this game is supposed to be much heavier than bf2...and when I run bf2 at low setting I get 100 fps so I suppose if I'm using the high setting I should get at least 40 fps right?I don't really understand what's the problem here
-
mine is the asian version (bought it in hong kong) and it came with 2...

My G1 with 2GB RAM and XP can play BF2 with everything maxed out. I think the 1GB vs 2GB has something to do with it, but still I think you have a problem... i.e. probably Vista.
-
BF2 is notorious for being one of the first PC games that basically requires 2 GB of RAM to play smoothly, probably more if you've got Vista.
-
BF2 runs perfectly smooth at 1680x1050 with all the settings maxed out with the latest patch installed ( ran smooth without the patch too ) on my G1 (windows XP). It's got to be the ram. Get another gigabyte and you more than likely will have solved the problem.
-
I think he's talking about free ram... Even though we all have 2 gigs (G1's default) when running Vista we only get abut 1 gig free for apps and games...
I'm downloading all G1 drivers for Win XP to "downgrade" and see the difference. -
I have finally able to play it at high setting with constant fps,But the loading is so slowwwwwwww(about 4 minutes) and the first 2 minutes of the game was very laggy,so it gotta be the ram right?
g1(lag while playing battlefield)
