    Hello,
Yesterday i updated the bios on my G1s and ever since then the microphone has beeen constantly on. I have tried to mute it in sound settings but it still stays on. I did not have this problem before updating (unless im dumb and didnt notice it) but has anyone else had this problem. The only way i wont hear it on, is if i shut the sound completly off. Maybe im missing something?

    Thanks

Well, i dont want to disable the microphone completly, because i use it. I just want it so that i cant hear everything going into it. I also just noticed that when i do mute it within the sound options, the bar does not move up and down as if it is hearing something (acting like it actually is muted), yet i can still hear what is going into the microphone.

Never mind! I fixed it... I had to go change the levels within the speaker settings, not the microphone settings.. I still dont understand why i would have needed to do that though, because i never changed it..

Having same problem under same circumstances. Are you sure your microphone isn't still "listening" to you even when you don't have it on? You said you just turned the volume on something down, but doesn't the microphone normally stay off until you open a program that uses it?

The 203 BIOS fixed the Direct Media button it says.
I basically stopped reading the manual after I found out it wasn't even talking about the laptop I bought.
Is this button the little Power one at the front of the computer?
With this, would I be like some other laptops and be able to watch movies without having to fully boot windows?
Also, if so would I still have to have that ~5GB parition?
    Thanks, sorry about the newbieness ^^;

Even if you push the "PWR" button while the computer is off, it will still boot into windows, but will turn on Media Center once logged in. No one has been able to control anything except WMC with the Direct Media Keys.

The 5GB partition is for total windows recovery. It is so you can re-install windows without the DVD. Recovering from that hidden partition is a lot faster than using the DVDs, but it is up to you whether you want to keep it or not.

Alright. Thats what was happening to me when I used it too (prior to the 203 bios update... wiped the 5gb parition before the update as well :p), just didn't know if something other than media center popping up was supposed to happen... since it does have a different boot screen :)

I just called Asus tech support to ask questions about the new BIOS version that came out 7/19. Basically, the guy said, 'Do not update any drivers , BIOS or otherwise, unless you are experiencing performance issues that are of concern to you'. He said when your prompted to update BIOS to version 203, click no. He was very reassuring that if I experienced any problems that they would be there to walk me through it, and get it fixed.

I'm feeling a tad apprehensive about my purchase at this point.

Well I tend to agree with the tech support guy. But I would put it like this: check the BIOS list of updates, see if there is something useful to you there (like a bugfix, or a feature that you could use) and if that is the case, update. Otherwise, do not update.

Usually it's a good idea to upgrade with bugfixed BIOS-es because the bugs can have important negative effects.

I've always heard stuff like that for BIOS updates.
Only update it if you need to, if it works fine now, don't try to "fix" it.
When you update you can mess things up sometimes, like having to reset everything back to "defaults" for the bios rather than whats good for your machine. This that and the other thing... don't worry about it.
