Just got my g1s in the mail and decided to do a clean install with the recovery DVD. Im starting to regret that decision...

I get this error about 30 minutes into the install, after inserting the drivers disc each time. ive tried 3 times.

""windows could not complete the installation. Please restart the intallation process"

2nd time I completely formatted the HD- same error.

third time same thing. anyone seen this before?

If you see a message saying: "you must restart the computer" don't click restart, it's not done yet, the recovery is working in the background, it's done only when the computer shuts down and power light goes off.

    O wow thanks..
Well i hope this fixes it, because i was playin a game earlier then restarted the computer.
When i restarted, nothing would work. All of the startup programs were disabled and i couldn't use a system restore.

    Hi There

None of the suggestions did not work for me.I tried several times to run the recovery DVD and the driver CD but no luck. Any body can give different idea.

Try the recovery partition. When booting the computer keep tapping F9 and you should be able to get into the recovery partition and re-install Windows fromt here.

    Hi,

I encountered a similar problem yesterday when trying to do a clean install on the Asus G1 with the factory recovery disks. I tried the solutions mentioned in this thread, but with no luck. I could not find answers anywhere else on the web, and I finally decided to call the Asus technical support line.

Surprisingly, I was connected to a technician in less than ten minutes. He told me that the secret is to boot from the recovery disk and go through the entire disk reformat and installation process. When it has completed, a window will pop up and ask the user to insert the drivers disk. The technician told me to just remove the recovery disk, force the power off by holding down the power button, and then reboot without any disk in the drive.

I was skeptical, but this actually worked. Better yet, it performed a truly clean install of Windows Vista without loading all of the additional drivers and utilities that typically come pre-installed on the system. This is exactly what I wanted. After the clean installation was complete, I used the drivers disk to upload the necessary drivers and everything now seems to be working fine.

To recap: The secret is to boot from the recovery disk and -- when asked to insert the drivers disk -- force a power-down and reboot from the hard drive. Bingo. You will end up with a clean installation of Vista.

I also learned that Asus rhymes with Dr. Seuss, as in "A Seuss."

The trick of doing a clean install by refusing to insert the driver and app CD is well-known in the forums.

I'm not sure what other problem it solved for you, though.

Edit: I actually think that it solved your installation issues, as well.

carbonel_2007's method worked for me as well. As soon as I got my g1s, I used an ubuntu live cd to repartition the drive the way I wanted. I created the first partition as a 20 gig NTFS partition, and when I used the recovery CD I selected the first option (only install to first partition). No installed junk! Yay!
