I have a g50vt a1. I love it. I upgraded it to windows 7 last year and I was happy for the most part...But a couple of things annoyed me. I can't turn the lights on the back of the computer off like I could in vista. Also none of my touch buttons work anymore either.

I would like to turn off the lights on the back of the g50 and if there is anyway to get the touch buttons working again, that would be great.

it's tremendously annoying as I leave my computer on over night sometimes when I'm downloading stuff and since it's right near my bed I see blue light a lot.

taking apart the screen is not going to happen so dont suggest it

You said you don't want to take it apart, so... there is no other way to turn off the lights. Direct Console is not supported in Win7, so your buttons won't work either.

In case you change your mind... ;) Just be careful. http://allurgroceries.com/g50lights/

i don't know if a g50vt-x5 isthe same as the g50vt a1 but im pretty sure it is.

im running windows 7 on my g50vt -x5 bestbuy version and don't have no problems running direct console and have everything else working as it should be even touch buttons.

some programs you have to run as admin for them to work and stuff.

some things i just use the g51s drivers. but direct console work right away after i install it. but i just cant get the overclock feature too stick.

    heres the thread i followed http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=388422 :)

NIce to be wrong :D, I'm glad direct console works (last I knew all w7 support was dropped for the g50  ). Maybe you need to reinstall ATK/ACPI drivers darth. Good luck.

I'm going to try. How can I uninstall the current ATK/ACPI drivers? I can't find them in the control panel. And should I download the drivers for that computer even though it's not really the exact same model?

EDIT: I looked on the Asus website and they have 5 ATK drivers for windows 7 64bit for the g50vt, Not sure which ones I download though (haha I'll be so happy if I can overclock again) :

The ones to download are ATK generic and ATKACPI and then atk hotkey... you should be able to unzip them and run the installers. If another version is already installed it will ask you if you want to remove it, so in that case just run the installer again after it uninstalls. Do the hotkey driver last.

You'll also need the directmessage/directflash utility.

That's directconsole, will let you hopefully turn off the lights... I don't know for sure since I don't have my G50 anymore and I never ran win7 but it should work according to gordesky1.

Ok, cool and where can I get this? I don't see it on the driver page....

(Btw what did you replace you g50 with and if you sold it how much did you sell it for?)

    Edit:nvm I found it <_<

Edit 2: SWEET, I installed it and it worked. I'm so glad I got this working again, I hope the overclock utility still works correctly... Thanks to both of you + rep

    It's under utilities...

I sold my G50V-A2 for like 650 in september :(

I have a G51J-A1 now, but I had a macbook pro in between. I like the G51J a lot, there is a new one coming out, the G51Jx.

Cool, I'll be sticking with the g50, I bought it for about 1500 (Bit of a rip :p ) and there is no way I'm selling it for 650.
