    Hello,

I started noticing that my laptop makes some annoying hitch/pop noises. Looks like its random, sometimes it will happen while listening to music on the desktop or sometimes in games. Its annoying specially in games like audio surf.

I tried updating my audio drivers but no luck.

Anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

I also shut down the asus live update and direct console just in case.

    Thanks

Are you using headphones? If so, are you using USB devices? Try removing them and see if the popping disappears. If yes, plug them back in but in the USB ports further away from the headphone jack.

The reason I suggest this is that some people have been reporting audio interference from USB devices closest to the headphone jack.

Ok, so with all peripherals removed the hitching still happens.

    Next things to try:
    a) watch your processes list, see if anything eats up too much CPU / has its CPU usage spike up. Identify the application, see if it has issues. Maybe the "hitching" is because something eats up all the CPU for brief periods of time (although from your description it seems to be interference)

    b) reinstall Audio drivers.

    c) it may also be a case of faulty audio card hardware / abnormal susceptibility to interference (even for this laptop)... but check a) and b)

Have you contacted Asus? The call would be free and if they pick it up/return it by FedEx, shipping would be free too. Why not let them worry about it?

I always advise a bit of local debugging. It's a pity (waste of time and resources) to send a notebook into RMA for problems that can be easily solved locally once you get insight; and also for problems that are common to the model, and thus very likely to reappear after the repair/replacement.

Also, having some insight into what the problem actually is helps a lot with making sure the guys that fix the laptop replace the right thing, rather than doing a generic motherboard replacement and sending you back the laptop with the same issue. :)

I actually have the same issue with my G1S. It seemed it appeared when I installed Windows 7 beta but I'm not sure.

What I'm sure of is that it is very annoying although it happens randomly.
I used to experience the same but only when I insert a SD card in the memory card slot.

Andrewe1, have you solved your problem ?
