i was thinking of geting a cpu for my x5 but not sure what one i should go for?

i was thinking out of theses the p9600 and the t9800 t9900 or the x9000?

and for overclocking will it overclock just the same as my p7450? like a 450mhzs overclock?.

oh and this laptop cant use a quad core yet or ever right?

and will i see a nice improvement over my p7450@ 2.45ghz?

im happy with the performence i got now but like to sqeeze out some more :)

sense i plan to use this laptop for couple years for gaming.

sure i know i wont be maxing games out in the future but i know it should still play them decent on lower settings.

heck i used my dell 9300 flash to xps with a 7800gtx and a 1.74m single core for 3 to 4years before it started geting really slow on the newer games. it still plays them but mosty have to have the res low and settings on low to mem.

oh and for the hdd which one would i need to run with my current 320gb hdd which is seagate in raid

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ... 50001305 1309733643 1035507776&name=7200 RPM

why i ask because on the rpms one is 7200.3

and and the other one is 7200.4 lol

    not sure if it matters.

    thanks

If you're planning on doing some intensive CPU work such as photoshop or the likes, then upgrading your CPU can be beneficial. If you're only upgrading your CPU for gaming, you may not find that much of a difference (probably a few FPS faster) since most games are will GPU dominant. The best CPU you can upgrade to is the T9900, but given its high price tag, I'd suggest going with the T9800 unless you don't mind spending the extra $$$. Your G50 will still be able to overclock with the CPU upgrade. Quad core is not supported on the G50.

If you want to run your HDDs in RAID, you'll need to get the identical HDD as your current one. Pop open your notebook and check what version HDD. Copy the serial number on google products or newegg and you're good to go. :)

T9600 or P9700 (more expensive) is the first real upgrade from the P7450, 2.66Ghz is a good step up (T9550, P9600) but dollar for dollar I think the T9600 comes in at a better bang for buck, got myne used from david.

X9000 = santa rosa though with the X7800 working 99%ish I guess it would work. The one you would go for is the X9100 and on that note I point out the mention above of the T9900. The T9900 is the same spec, can get it cheaper (except ES and Unkown ebay samples of the X9100 are cheap...) and with the G50 your overclocking by fsb not multiplier.

Versus X9000/X9100 the T9900 is the better choice and also the best processor you can get at this point, unless Intel made the unlikely view of one last go, which they wont this was their last go at the current architecture.

    @David's Gaming comment:
Far Cry 2 while not necessary as you can jack the physics, fire and trees down to medium do greatly benifit from the T9600 can play it on High easily and Still get 30+ fps On Very High.

World in Conflict I would definitely recommend something 2.66 ghz +. Crysis will benefit from a slight bump, though you can give it what you need using direct console/set fsb.

Yes, but the majority of games on the market are still predominantly GPU dominant. But you're correct, many RTS games such as Supreme Commander and World In Conflict are more CPU intensive.

I should also note, really should have just pointed him but I am working on a thread for the G50VT's mostly gaming related. I list all the games I have tested (as well as slowly adding others that others are testing) to come up with a list of all the games that will run on most/all G50VT's.

I note the games that will need overclocking or one of the better CPU's. Hard to know them all. Devil May Cry 4 easily runs on the thing and it seems like it doesnt really use the CPU, no physics but nice graphics getting 80-100 fps though weird for a newer game. Crysis is mostly graphics once you get past 2.2 - 2.4 Ghz which you can do already. Far Cry 2 is Balanced. If your into racing games your good to go on CPU most of them dont use the cpu enough to matter gpu dependent.

I like having the extra cpu power for compression and encryption. I just installed OpenOffice.Org 3 and I was 99% sure that in the 5 seconds it took, I had screwed up somewhere and it didn't even install but it uh did lol. If you intend todo video editing the cpu is good stuff too.

so pretty much its not worth upgrading the cpu if im fully using it for gaming?

couple fps in games would be great because those couple fps would do wonders in gta 4 crysis and other high demanding games.

the cpu i was thinking of going is the x9100 E0 stepping is that a good one?

and will it be really hot because of the 44watts?

    or will it be fine?

The X9100 will work fine on the G50, and like you said it will run hotter than your current CPU. I have the X9100 in a 14" Dell notebook and it's running ~45C on idle. On another note, you can get the T9900 which is essentially the same as the X9100 but with a lower TDP.

No, because Asus will not sell you the GTC 260M GPU and since Asus uses a proprietary GPU, you will not be able to get one that is compatible from other resellers.
