The X1 has a 7200rpm hard drive and DDR3 memory on the 9800M. The processor, battery, and visual style are the only differences.

Actually what does Outlet Item means on the bb website ?

Did this notebook get a weight reduction or something?! I just read it weighs 6.2 pounds that's REALLY light has it always weighed this much?
-
I doubt it, since the internals are likely all the same. I'd personally prefer a bigger heatsink for more headroom (I'm dreaming one day of the ability to have a quadcore or new GPU). That figure is probably minus the battery.

The G50vt-x5 is available in some Best Buy stores... The reason its not out in that many is because its relatively new and is supposed to be on display within a week or so (possibly even less).
The x5 has a different processor, P7460 and the x1 has an 8400. x5 also has an extended battery. Besides that, the design on the case seems like the only change.
The x5 does have an interesting design to it... I definitely like the darker colors instead of the quick jump between the black to silver. The x5 has a nice lightning like design on the lid whereas the x1 has an awesome blue one which can almost be described as blue DNA strands being torn apart.
From what I can remember from examining the batteries on the two laptops, the x5 has an 7800 mA and the x1 has about a 4800 mA.
I am still torn between the two laptops and i don't really know which one I would pick... -
thanx ane, you my friend get rep points for effort. =)

I work at the local BB here in WI where we just got 2 in. Checking inventory, every surrounding best buy in Wisconsin has either 2 or 3 in stock. That number will of course decrease by 1 when we start displaying them. We've even discontiunued the older G50 in our store. Besides the lower processor and bigger battery, I dont see it being worth the $50 more.
-
According to this site the x5 has a standard 15,4 inch screen.

What is the Laptop 9800GS equivalent on the Desktop.
-
Besides the shiny bauble syndrome why are people all goo goo over the X5 while the X1 for $50 less is still available.
Now that the new eye candy X5 comes with a 2.13 instead of a 2.26 those extra 130 mHz are regarded as nominal however people are always trying to tweak every last ounce out of their laptops so why not now?
Also the 9cell over the 6cell issue...its still considered a gaming laptop and if you are gaming on battery its pretty much a brick anyway. So you eek out a few more mins while surfing myspace or facebook, o' well, you can add a few more friends/hr.
I just got back from BB and took a close look at the X5. I will say that the look is definitely more subtle with its brown/black/copper tones accented with the yellow bolts in contrast to the shocking silver/blue of the X1. One thing that is a big turn off for me is that the battery now sticks out the back about 1/2".
Has any of the owners reported what this CPU runs at on AC/turbo i.e. 2.33mhz? Any 3dmarks to compare to the X1?
Also was it mentioned that the HDD was different in the X5. -
-
I agree with warhammer. I was interested in this laptop, now with a battery sticking out(that I will never use) I am quit a bit less enthusiastic.

I'd be happy to swap batteries with you

I haven't bought it yet, still holding off. If I end up buying it I will swap.

apparently there is 64 bit windows on here that's also awesome.
didnt best buy's original G50vt-x1 only have 32 bit? -
No, the original was a G50vm-X1 and it was running 64bit
-
I was wrong, the old G1 has the same battery size (4800 mA) as the newer G50vt-X1. The X5 does stick out more but i've been leaning towards this just because those extra cells squeeze out more power so if you don't have an option for power and use your notebook for more than just gaming, you can actually game.
Even if the battery does stick out a bit that doesn't seem as bad as Asus making it the same size with more price because of it. And at least the design seems sound, haven't heard any complaints towards overheating or design in general.
I have a friend that bought a Dell laptop and replaced the graphics card and did some other stuff to it but would only get like an hour worth of battery because of the high end video card and what not. This was a while back but the point remains the same: limited capability.
I tried to run a benchmark of 3dMark06 of the X1 a while back but never got a chance to because someone had password protected the laptop and no one knew the password for it so... i did a system restore and didn't have enough time to mess around with it.
When I get a chance I'll try to run benchmarks of the two systems and give you guys the info... Not always the easiest to do in a store though. -
I purchased an X5 tonight from BB based on the specs posted on ZDNet and Newegg. The specs on the laptop itself are not anything like those listed on either of those sites for a G50VT-X5. The discrepancies are:
Processor is a P7450 vs. the advertised P8700
Display is only 1366 x 768 vs. the advertised 1680 x 1050
Webcam is only 1.3 Megapixels vs. the advertised 2.0 megapixels
I'll have to pull the battery back out to see if it is actually larger, although it does stick out the back a bit. If anything, the specs showed the smaller battery.
I was really disappointed when I got home and the machine didn't have the specs the salesperson pointed out to me at BB. He was, too, when I called him back as he was looking forward to getting this machine.
I may be taking this baby back. -
I would suggest giving the G50vt-X5 a chance. I wasn't sure that I was going to like the X1 after reading about others having the higher resolution/better cam/bluetooth/etc.. The truth of the matter is that the X1 is quite an enjoyable purchase. I strongly suspect that the X5 is as well. ASUS makes a great line of laptops.
Regardless, I wish you the best of luck with your decision, lady_kat! -

i like X6 better the p8700 @ 2.53ghz is really sweet.
-
-
I was wondering if i would be able to switch LIDS with this one rather then the blue on the G50VT-X1, better yet would i be able to switch with a A1?
-
I'm still contemplating whether or not to take it back, though. For $999, I really don't think I can do any better. I prefer the better battery life to the small increase in processor speed with the X1 due to how I plan to use it. I can always upgrade the processor later when I feel I really need to.
As for looks, blue versus orange...this gal rides a Harley. Nuff said. -
where in WI are you? (you can PM me) [just curious, as i'm from Milwaukee]
any way, i actually like and think the x1 is a better deal, because the specs are the same, other than the battery and the proc. Personally the x1 looks better too, Frankly though, i wish the lid was plain black... -
whats the battery backup in the x1?...Just normal browsing, music and some office work...
-
Anybody know if Best Buy will drop the price by next week? Looking to price match this baby while I still can... haha

Got mine from Best Buy tonight:
-
the processor is 2.13 ghz but it has 3MB L2 chache.
the x-1 has 2.26 Mhz but has 2MB L2. does not the fact of having more cache memory compensate de luck of 0.13 Mhz??? besides, looking at the intel´s web site it says that intel centrino 2 needs at least 3Mb L2 to work the way it has to...
i´m an architect and i´m looking for a powerfull machine to work with 3d modeling. i was interested in te x-1 but now that BB has this x-5 i don´t know what to get....
Ps: sorry about my english, i´m argentinian.... -
Your English is really good , just Remember to type i as I and you are all good to go.
Learux -
thanks for the advice...! do you have any answers to my question?
what do you recommend me? 1. to buy the x1 with the 2.26 Mhz processor and 2MB L2 cache
2. to buy the x5 with the 2.13 Mhz processor and 3MB L2 cache
faster processor or more cache memory????
Ps: I´m travelling to USA tomorrow so i need to know what to buy -
-
-
-
I searched in Intel´s site and you are correct! te P8400 has 3MB L2 caché...
The BB site is mistaken...!
Well... now I´ve cheked this out, i´m going for the x1 instead of the x5...y don´t really know why does Asus releases a new model with a downgraded processor...
Thank you very much to all of you... I´m really gratefull. Laptops are vey expensive here in Argentina, and I really need it to work. I think i will do a great buy on this one...this forum has been really helpfull and i´ve had very quik replies from you...
Thanks again!
