Do anybody know how i can get it to shipped internationally. i cant find any on ebay.
-
You would have to get someone to order one for you, or if you have a friend you can ship to and they ship to you.
Otherwise maybe look at some of the other models on eBay... The g50vt has many models... Maybe another one close to your price range. In a nut shell they are all the same laptop. Just some have better CPU and blueray or bluetooth... -
hmm all those are upgradable but i doubt you can change the cover right?

I bought one of these (G50Vt X5) last friday. It had issues with dropping the internet connection. I read a couple of reviews where people mentioned this problem. Asked a couple of tech friends and nothing they could tell me fixed the problem, so I took it back to Best Buy and they tested it, it dropped the connection there, so they swapped my HD to a new unit and sent me on my way.
I got the new one home last night, and it promptly dropped the connection. Went through all the steps that I was given before, and it's still doing this. I'm running it on a Linksys WRT54G router. When it drops the connection, it still says connected in the system tray but won't load any webpages, and disconnects me from Warhammer Online. Sometimes manually disconnecting and reconnecting will work, sometimes I have to actually restart, and sometimes I've had to reset my router before I'll get the connection back.
It happens 1-2 minutes after being woke from sleep mode, or if I have Warhammer running and leave it for more than 2-3 minutes. This is pretty irritating and discouraging. If anyone has any suggestions for what could be the issue or how to fix it please reply, I'm on the verge of just asking for a refund on this thing. -
You might want to make sure it isn't your router. I have a Linksys WRT150N that drops the wireless connection every few minutes if it is allowed to idle, requiring a manual reconnect.
EDIT:
I just saw you mentioned it dropped at work too. Sounds like the wireless card drivers aren't working right and need an update, either that or the Intel WiFi card they are using in the X5 is faulty. -
It appears to be the fact that the intel cards are faulty. I took it back into best buy and the guy there said a lot of them are coming back with the same problem. He downloaded the updated drivers and it didn't make a difference, it still dropped the connection there in the store even after updating.
He told me to try to disable Trend Antivirus and see what happens, if that doesn't work try doing a restore and see if the original drivers make a difference (with or without trend installed/running). If not I'm going to have to return it. Problem being that the only comparable model they have is $250 more. The "bang for the buck" thing is the whole reason I bought this one. -
A pain in the butt for a new lappy, but you could always swap the wireless card. Also, try requesting the G50vt-X1. If there are no more at your store maybe they can have one shipped to the store. Unless you hate the graphic on the back they are almost the same machine.

Wow, I'm glad I didn't pick one up at BB then. I almost did, but found out that the ASUS warranty is transferable and then bought a G50Vt-X2 here on the boards for the same price (actually less since shipping was less than tax would be). I hope the X2 doesn't have the same problem, but I have a USB adapter if it does.
Still, I would do what was recommended, see if they can order a X1 from the outlet and swap for it. I haven't heard of connection problems with the X1. -
I have an Air-link router that I have loaded DD-WRT on. When I do very heavy torrent traffic on it, I get the some kind of result. Internet shows connected but nothing works, resetting the computer sometimes works but most of the time I just have to reset the router.
I'm not saying it's not the laptop card but when you say you have to reset the router, I start thinking you are having multiple problems.
One other thing to think about or try. What security setting are you using on the router / wireless card. It appears that some people have had problems with the Intel WiFi Link 5100 a/g/n wireless card when using the AES setting and others have problems when using the TKIP setting. It might be worth trying to play with those settings. -
Milo, I'm thinking you're probably the guy who posted for me on the Asus boards, but if not:
The other pcs on the network, including my Xbox 360 which is also wireless, function as normal when the Asus loses connection.
Both of the two machines I've had so far have done this both on my home network and on the best buy network. The guy from best buy checked his return log and said this is a "prevalent" problem with the "vast majority" of them coming back for the same issues.
This is really frustrating, my first ever *new* laptop, I was so excited and ready to play with it, and now it's basically a 1000 dollar desktop since I can't use the thing wireless. -
Yup, I guess I am that guy. Are you running any security setting? Have you tried the AES vs. TKIP settings? I've seen weird issues like this in the past and think it must be some kind of setting or firmware incompatibility. I have a netgear WG511T card that refuses to work with my Linksys router with one of the two settings but works fine with the other. It worked fine the other way while I had a netgear router but the netgear router needed a daily reboot because of a problem with my cable company's modem. I got the Linksys router and it solved my modem issue but cause a wireless card issue. I think your having a similar type of problem.
Don't lose hope.I'll check my setting on my g50VT-A2 when I get home and see what happens. I have a wrt-54g router (I think it's rev. 2.2). Let's compare settings and try to solve this.

Posted this elsewhere, but posting here as well. When I got home this afternoon I was prompted to reboot in order to install a windows update. After installing this update, it seems the problem is resolved. I've shut down, restart, sleep mode, and loaded Warhammer and left my character idling for 15 minutes. It never lost connection all night.
If there's a way to check what the update today did someone point me in the right direction, I really am curious what happened, this has been a drastic change since the last 3-4 days. -
In Vista Home Premium 64-bit go to control panel (classic view) > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System. Once there look for "Windows Update Agent" in the Task Category column or "WindowsUpdateClient" in the Source column. Click on the entry for the General or details information about the update.
If you are using XP Pro go to control panel (classic view) > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > System. Once there look for "WindowsUpdateClient" in the Source column. Click on the entry for the General or details information about the update.
I also posted my wireless setting information at the other forum before I saw this post.
Hope this helps. -
I got My G50vt-X5 Few days ago. If any one have questions Ask here

I just bought this laptop on Sunday. I also had the connectivity issue with the laptop and Asus could offer no solution. I updated the Intel drivers, did a system restore etc... nothing worked.
Took it to my work and had my IT department work on it for two hours, they also could not get it to go online on our company network.
BB swapped it out for a new one. The new one is working just fine!
Just wanted to share my similar experience.
(note, when i first purchased this laptop from best buy, the acutally sold me a USED one for full price, I noticed this as i was walking ouyt of the store and exchanged it for a new one. They appologized up and down, but this shouldn't have happened. BB is not to be trusted. I will not be buying any expensive electronics from them ever again.) -
Yeah, I paid $330 for the Black Tie warranty, plus an extra $40 to have it "optimized" ahead of time. I'm honestly wondering if the optimization is what my issue was.
When I first had the problem I logged into the 24hr Geek Squad thing they put on the pc. The "agent" I spoke to told me they could try to fix it remotely but it would cost $79.99, even though I had bought the $330 warranty. I told him thanks but no thanks, I'd just take it back.
They exchanged the first one no problem. The second one the guy tried to tell me to take it home and do a restore, uninstall a buncha stuff, update stuff, etc. When I asked him why I was having to do all this after paying for the Black Tie warranty and the optimization, he looked at me like I was speaking Arabic.
I like Best Buy for things like movies, games, etc, but for anything even remotely expensive/complicated I'll be taking my business elsewhere. -
Arauge - Did you figure out which updates you got that made it work?
-
They were security updates, I'm thinking the guy at best buy just didn't completely install the driver when he downloaded it and the reboot did it. I dunno though. Doesn't seem like security updates would have made the difference.

X-5 is now $949.99 at Best Buy

more pictures please =D. other then the wireless card issue any other issues?
-
Other than the wireless card i've had no issues. I was running Warhammer Online at highest settings, downloading several torrents and had Pandora.com playing in the background all at once last night and never experienced any slowdowns.
Now that I'm able to hold a connection I'm very pleased with this computer. Just gotta go back to best buy and get my $50 refund since they dropped the price. -

Thanks Chaminga for these awesome pics.
By the way how much can the battery stay on powersaver mode brightness 50% and only web browsing?
Is this battery 50% more than the X1 battery?
Thanks -
I am getting about 3 hours and 45 minutes on battery saving mode.
-
This is Power4Gear Extreme which came with X5, for Example when you in Battery saving mode It will automatically do Underclock Processor and several other things like reducing Brightness

This look like a cool feature
Is it better than the vista powersaver setting? -
Anyone who was having wireless problems, what was happening? Did it just go out and would not come back unless you rebooted or reconnected or was it going in and out by itself? I am still having problems and wondering if its still the notebook or its my router.
Thanks -
is the processor changeable for this model ??

Hello Everyone,
I have settled on this laptop, but before I buy I was just wondering what the temperatures were inside the machine? Has it ever hungup after playing games for over an hour...
Could someone post some temperature pics?
Also, how hot does the machine feel and would you recommend a laptop cooler? -
The g50vt-x5 got reduced to $899.99 at bestbuy.
Great deal
I just bought the g50vt-x1 yesterday.
today they reduced this.
Anyway I love the look of the X1 more than the x5 -
oh and one more question:
could you post FPS rates for the x5 on various games like COD4 or Counterstrike source...??? -
-
I'm very happy with my purchase so far. I'm still getting rid of the bloat that was installed by best buy.
No issues with the wireless here, everything is running great. -
how hot are the temps?
-
My idle cpu temp is around 36, or 39 in overclocked mode. -
Can Anyone tell me what kind of connectors for an external monitor this thing has? My monitor has D-Sub, and DVI-D
-
-
-
Thanks, that works for me -

Has anyone noticed the huge difference in advertised Vs. actual HD size? You never get the full advertised size on a HD, which I understand, but this thing advertises 320gigs...my hd is 278 gigs. That's 42 gigs below advertised, ?
