hi everyone, i just bought this laptop from bestbuy about a week ago. since this is going to be my first laptop ever, i have a lot of questions that i need to ask you guys.

    1. I want to run Windows XP on this machine, will the guide on how to downgrade to windows XP on the model g50v work on this laptop? Has anybody who own this laptop try this yet? If downgrade to Windows XP is not a good idea because of the lack of drivers, then is there anyway i can get a clean windows vista install? I don't like how this laptop has all these bloatwares that i don't even need to use.

    2. If i were to buy a 15.4 lcd screen to replace the 15.6 on this model, will it work? i read the disassembly guide and it showed you how to take off the lcd screen and such so i was curious. I know some of you guys would probably ask me why not get the g50vt-x2/a1/a2 cuz it comes with a 15.4inch. Well the only reason why i didn't get neither of those models was because of the color scheme and price.

    3. Is there a way i can get bluetooth on this laptop without buying a bluetooth adapter?

I can't think of anything else i need to ask so these are for now. Thank You

    1. Yes Xp will work and most of the drivers on the drivers disk should work for xp too.

    2. Not sure on this one.

    3. Nope

will everything work under windows xp? i read the thread on how to downgrade to windows xp it says that IR Driver, Direct Console and Smart Logon don't work. Are those important?

as for bluetooth, i read some where in one of these g50vt-x1 thread and saw someone mentioned that you can get an aftermarket bluetooth installed on this system.

That's pretty much right... on my G50V in XP the stock IR driver doesn't work, I found one that at least matches the device ID but it doesn't work properly (device manager accepts it and says it is started). Direct console doesn't work, and that means you can't turn the blue lights off or use it to control the OLED display. There is an internal bluetooth card you could put in the X1 but it is not for sale anywhere on ASUS' site. There are threads that have the part number if you search for it. As for replacing the LCD, you are on your own there AFAIK. Haven't seen anyone swap one out for the better resolution yet.

I've been having this laptop for a week now but i haven't even touch the Direct Console yet. Hmm, if running windows xp on this machine is such a hassle, then i'll guess i just stick to windows vista. Is there a guide on how to do a clean windows vista installation?

The internal bluetooth card is what i'm talking about. I read somewhere about it too but i forgot which thread i gotta search for it.

As for the lcd screen, if all the g50vt series has the same dimensions and same chassis then i guess putting a 15.4 inch (1680x1050) would work right? i don't see why it wouldn't.

Another question regarding the CPU, does this model support up to X9100?

See the ASUS info booth for the reinstall directions. Also there is a guide by GenTech for XP installation.

I don't know about the screen and the sizes...

For the CPU, it's my opinion that you can put up to a T9800 in it safely. I have a T9600 (35W) and some people will tell you putting an X in it will be fine. The G50 will not support quads, but some people claim can handle the higher 45W-ish TDP of the extreme CPUs. I haven't ever seen anyone posting that they've done it on a G50V.
