I understand this topic has been beaten to death. But the reason why i bring it up again is Screentek, has just got a shipment of 15.6 1920x1050 LED panels. And the superbar from windows 7 takes up 1/3 of my 1366x768 res. screen.

My g50vt-x1 came with a ccfl panel, so would attaching an led panel pose any compatibility issues?

From the what ever i could find on google the backlit bulbs are layered and part of the panel them selves, not attached to bezel of the laptop. So when replacing the screen i understand your also replacing the backlighting as well. But the question is whether the connecters are different for ccfl and led panels.

Would the process be simply unscrewing and removing the bezel and switching out the panels? any type of firmware or software update be required?

Im willing to fork some cash and test this out

    thanks guys

There are a few threads on this scattered in this subforum but I'll bite :)
You can't mix LED and CCFL. I think the best option for G50vt owners would be to get a 15.4" screen and a new bezel from Asus, but the one thing I don't know yet is if the holding brackets would match up for a 15.4" screen...

I don't think I am really helping, but do you know that you can move the "superbar" to the left, instead of the bottom of the screen. I do it, and that is the only reason that I can stomach 1366*768 screen.

I just hide the taskbar altogether and have Firefox's tabs on the side. The lack of vertical pixels is annoying though.

I actually read on another forum about someone upgrading the screen. This notebook is so big, it can fit either 15.4" or 15.6" screens.

I wouldn't risk messing with the screen myself, but it sounds possible for those who'd be interested.

I realize this is probably an exaggeration, and you seem intent on doing a custom job but you DO know you can reduce the taskbar's height by entering the properties menu and checking "Use small icons" right? ;)

I realize there are other benefits to having more vertical pixels, but I just wanted to make sure you knew the superbar doesn't have to take up that much space (even when you install your new display).

You can find screens at screencountry for a good price.

There are some good samsung's for about 130 bucks, new, you can get, other screens are similarly priced.

I've been looking at the G50vt compatible screens at screencountry for a while now... I can't wait to put this into my notebook. And the fact that it's a Samsung makes things all the better.

    Thanks again!

I finally ordered a bezel and screen and ended up gluing and duct taping the display to the top bracket after aligning it to the nearest millimeter. Completely unprofessional and totally worth it.
