:( spent a lot of money on this awesome laptop to play games and brought it home on the 12th of March 2010. Set it up, and realized that because it's windows 7, nearly no games will play on it at all because nothing is able to work with it yet. What a dissappointment. I wanted to play fallout 3 and instead have to go back to my point and click hidden object games. sigh.

But my only other complaint with this laptop are the speakers. I have the volume up all the way and it's more like 15%. I don't understand why they'd advertise their ''exceptional speakers and sound" when, unless you're in a super quiet room with no noise anywhere and have exceptional hearing, you're only going to hear the faintest of sounds. Even with headphones on.

My generic toshiba satellite A205 low low budget laptop that was my one before this one cranked so loud with the speakers.
For a 1100. dollar laptop here, I am very very disappointed to say the least. Doesn't play any games from games for windows live, nor steam, and the sound is barely above a whisper.

    sigh.

Nothing is playing on this at all. I'm going to take it back to best buy and trade in for either a new one of these or something else. It's now freezing dead when I try to run steam, run gfwL or even the bigfish games download client. o_O I seriously think I got a dud system. One of those unlucky draws.

    It's definetly not W7.
You probably got a dud, return it and have the GEEK SQUAD optimize it for you.
It should have no problems playing Fallout 3.

For God's sake dont let GEEK SQUAD touch it!

Simply take it back and get a new one.

I know the problem to the steam freezing, delete Realtek HD audio manager in control panel. After this restart the computer when it gives you the option after deletion and the Microsoft Default manager will be applied automatically so you will still have sound.I have the same laptop and I solved the problem for the local Best Buy rofl. I dont have any freezes anymore. I took my original one back with the same problem, exchanged it and then it did the same thing. Geek squad needs to take notes!

Are you sure the problem isn't the software creative Sound Blaster? Unistalling the Realtek HD audio manager UNINSTALLS the driver. You could have solved the problem by just disabling Sound Blaster enhancements or installing the software Sound Blaster by Creative.

What's wrong with GEEK SQUAD?
Maybe you had a bad experience with them but at my local BB they do know what there doing. They are true GEEKS.
The poster sounded like they needed help, and if they don't have the resources to fix the problem themselves(or know someone that does) they are a solution.
Or you can always return it.

Ill give you an example, i was in worst buy 3 days ago and was looking at the G60vx when a lady walked in at the front counter and was pissed, apparently they'd had her computer tower for 5 weeks with no call back to her.

I spoke up and asked her what the issue was and she said they told her she had gotten a virus...5 weeks for a virus? she said yup. I gave her my number and told her to call me if she needed help.

All the while the manager of the Geek Squad came back and let her know they couldnt find her tower in the back!

She was so upset i thought she was going to gun him down right there.
He assured her they would call her the next day when they got it cleared up.

That is just one example my friend, i could go on if you'd like.

Has anybody been able to fix the volume problem on this model ? I set the bios at 8 and tweaked the equalization setting and still my 3 year old inspiron E1505 is twice as loud as this so called "premium gaming laptop". Either there is something wrong with the unit or its definitely a case of misrepresentation on both ASUS and Best Buy. ASUS wants me to either reload the operating system, send it to them to investigate or take it back to best buy. Best Buy doesn't even want to look at it. Its not even 24 hours old! Somebody please help. Thanks
