it appears i cannot even oc my gtx260m in my asus g71gx-rx05 best buy model to stock clocks simaler to the np8662 sager notebook. I have a feeling that the lappy was undervolted to deal with a heat issue. I'm curious about flashing it to the 1.00v instead of what looks like .95v to get the extra performance out of it. I hit about 98c in furmark and in normal gaming don't even come close. So i have a few questions.
Where can i get a modded bios that already has a 1.00v bios mod.
can i flash it via a usb stick using nvflash -4 -5 -6 bios.rom method
is it safe, i'm only looking for something like 575/900/1400 or so for speeds..
and last but not least, is there anybody who's already done this??

Does 550/1375/950 work?

Why not just use software to overclock it?

The GTX 260M can clock exceptionally well with 1v. However, because the G71 also suffers from poor cooling out of the box, I would recommend against overclocking it beyond Nvidia's reference clocks.
-
nTune can overclock it to stock clocks fine.
Don't bother overvolting it unless you have exceptionally cool GPU temps right now which you don't. -
yeah i can't even hit stock gtx260 clocks at all, i try overclocking it with ntune, but 3dmark06 or any other bench just crashes, i was wondering outside of furmark of the 1.0v bios would allow me to at least hit stock clocks and stay under 100c??
also i'm finding nbitor isn't allowing me to overvolt to 1.0 only the bios for the g51 or the sager is allowing that... is it possible to use the bios from the g51 or the sager np8662 gtx260m to flash or no?? id seems to be the same for all 3? -
You shouldnt have to overvolt it. Im on stock voltage and Im a good amount over nvidia stock clocks
-
hmm... you have a g51 though right?
comparing the 2 bios's you have access to the 1.0v option and i only see .95 as my max volts, truly i can't hit 550/900/1375 at all -
Not access to an option, it comes stock 1.0v. I was thinking that the G71 bios update would bump up the gpu to 1.0 but I guess not.
You would think that a big laptop like a G71 would have better cooling than its 15 inch brother. Asus should have really stuck in another fan. -
i wish they had, unfortunately they have not and it's not like you can control the speed of the thing either, kinda gotta let it do it's thing which is kindof annoying. Don't get me wrong i really love this laptop, i just wish i had some more options with the gpu. I have a phenom 2 940 and 3 gtx285's all under water for a desktop and i'm very much addicted to oc'ing. Was just hoping to geet a bit more out of this.
Do you know or does anybody know if flashing this thing with the g51's bios will hurt it... i'm talking video card bios not mobo bios. -

exodusprime1337. Can you post your G71 GPU BIOS please?
-
certainly can, here you go

Goddamn, I can't get NiBiTor 5.2 to read any of the values on your BIOS. The copy you sent me is either corrupt or totally unsupported by NiBiTor, but I'm going to go with the latter. And yes, I've tried all the tricks in my playbook.

well i am actually after i just got my second install of win7 installed run at 550/900/1350 with no problems apparently.. perhaps it was a driver issue?/ i have no clue, let me know whatayou come up with regarding the bios though, i'm interested to know why i can't just choose 1.0 in nbitor
oh and i ran 11500 for a score. here is a screen of what i had as far as it goes, lemme know if anything is wrong.

Very nice score, exodusprime1337. You will get a bit more performance if you use 550/1375/900 with minimal gain in temperature.

thanx for the tip, i'll try updating the clock and making another run, cod waw is calling my name atm, i'm horribly addicted to that game
