Is it worth it to get rid of my G71 to buy a G72?

I like the back-lit keyboard, and i think it looks a little more stylish, instead of "game-ish", but i'd have to go through the entire process of buying a new backpack and such.

Isn't the G71 and the G72 roughly the same size 17.1 vs 17.3 (Screen size). I would suspect it would fit in the same bag.

another .2 inches might not fit. its made for a 17, and my 17.1 barely fits as is.

Well i guess it depends on how high can sell the g71, and if the difference in price would justify the backlit keyboard, higher screen res and slightly different look.

The screen size might be slightly bigger, but the size of the chassis might remain the same, you can always take your backpack with you to BB and try it with the display model to make sure.

Probably not, give the amount you will lose by selling the G71. If you are concerned about weight and performance, I would suggest saving up for a G51J.
