So I just received my S96J and finished installing all the drivers and such, but was less than impressed once I attempted gaming.

Tried out HL2: ~20 FPS with other models onscreen, slow loading
Then I tried out Madden '07: worked very smoothly for a while, then reduced to about 10-15 FPS.

All I've done is install the drivers (omega video), firefox, itunes, a few EA games, and Steam + HL2. I'm running it with a T2400, 2 GB Patriot DDR2-667, and a Hitachi 60 GB/7200 RPM sata drive.

I know it's not the machine, my athlon xp 2600 / 9600XT rig has run these games better. any ideas?

did u scan for virus's or spyware? that could be slowing you down. is this when ur plugged in or on battery?

make sure your not on a power saving profile.

I highly doubt its viruses/spyware. i JUST installed everything today, and its been online for only a couple hours.

But, an update: I re-booted and tried out Madden again, ran smoothly on all highest settings: no hiccups, looked to be 50-60 FPS. After that I tried HL2 again. I was happy to see it running at 50 FPS, but then it slowed down to 30 or so, then it dropped to 10, yes 10 for a few seconds, shot back up to 50, and this cycle would repeat itself. Could it just be that I'm downloading files on Steam?

Try ending a few processes and shut down all anti virus running.

Uinstalled NHC (was causing a hard freeze 3-4 seconds after it turned on with "max performance" settings on...), tweaked with the power settings a lil', and now she's runnin great. 60-80 FPS in HL2 with all high settings, 1280x800 & no AA, and 1:19 to 2M in super pi.

is 65-70 a critical temp? mobilemeter reports my CPU there consistently when i am playing hl2/aa/eve/bf2 (running the grid process on the 2nd core) but i never see drops in performance. at what point should i be worrying about temperature on this thing?
