    Hello.
I,ve got a problem with my Asus A6Rp. Since few weeks ago (maybe since I have it, don't know) my laptop regularly hangs (or freezes) for approximatelly 7 seconds. Approximately once in a hour. It hangs when i play game, listen to music or do anything. After the app. 7 seconds it continues where it had finished before it hanged, without restarting the system (the game normally continues). In that 7 seconds there is no response to any mouse movement or key press. There is Win XP Pro with SP2 on it and i re-installed it several times. The CPU doesn't overheat. It is an 1,86 GHz Celeron, 512 MB ram and 80 gb seagate hdd. The version of bios is 214.I bought the laptop in may 2007. Any idea?

Most likely some process is taking all your CPU cycles. Can try leaving your task manager (Ctrl-Alt-Delete, select Task Manager) running on top and when the freeze occurs, see what process is taking the greatest percentage of your CPU cycles.

Agree with chemistry, something in your background processes is spiking your CPU load to 100%; this kind of thing gets very noticeable on the celeron chips because of their less adept, single core processor (happens occasionally on my daughter's dv1708, running a Cel420 cpu) can't keep up and it gives over the cpu cycles to the offender, locking up your currently active app. Anti-virus auto update, software update, Windows scheduled task, something - look around your taskbar and msconfig to see what's lurking.

Thak you guys, I'll try it out. And what about the Power4 Gear Utility or RM Clock Utility? I use them to throttle my CPU's frequency (of course not together) to save battery. Could the Celeron have troubles with CPU throttling? I haven't installed any other software on my laptop. Only the Win, drivers, WinAmp and games. Also no internet connection. I also upgraded from bios v. 212 to 214. ASUS says that the 213 fixes a problem "BIOS: Fix the bug that system hangs when use dual core cpu and throttle. " Could this be the problem? But I've already upgraded the bios to 214 and the problem still remains. What's your opinion? Thanks.
