    i was wandering if i got the part number correct for the hard drives

    hitachi: HTS721010G9SA00
    seagate: ST910021AS

    i saw this on buy.com are they in retail box or is it bulk

    does anyone know where i can find retail box for a cheap price. I have been searching a lot but most of it is bulk

    Googling those part numbers, I see the Hitachi part number being used to refer to both Serial ATA and Parallel ATA drives. Make sure you get Serial ATA. The Seagate part number uniquely refers to the SATA drive as per their website.

    I don't think I've ever purchased a retail hard drive. The manufacturer warrenty on the drive is usually the same regardless of if it's retail or OEM, so most people just buy OEM drives. It's not like with an optical drive where buying the retail drive gets you software and such, since it's just a hard drive.

    I would recommend buying from Newegg, ZipZoomFly, MWave, or another large computer retailer rather then from Buy.com, though.
