Hey all. I turned on my laptop this morning only to discover that my optical drive was missing from the "my computer" window. I tried removing the drive and putting back in, then restarting windows..still nothing. So i went over to my control panel to browse my harware and, sure enough, my optical drive had a nice yellow exclamation point on it. Apparently windows cant find the drivers for it. I tried looking online on the Asus support page..no luck. I tried the manufacturer (the model is TSSTCorp TS-L632D which im pretty sure is made by samsung)...still no luck. And i obviously cant use the drivers disk that came with the laptop.

So..If anyone out there knows where I can find the drivers (and I specify drivers not firmware update) or if any w3j owners with the same OD can upload their own drivers, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Isn't the driver included in Windows? I don't think we need a special third-party driver for the optical drive.

Hi battlemage, I just checked the Driver File Details of the TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-632D, and it listed the driver files as follows:

    1. C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys
    2. C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\imapi.sys
    3. C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\redbook.sys
    4. C:\WINDOWS\system32\storprop.dll

All come from Microsoft so it's clear that the drivers are installed when I installed Windows XP for the first time.

Maybe your Windows is corrupt? Maybe you need to do a search for the 4 files above in your HDD?

And Mr. Pigeon, I think the link you provided is for a firmware, not a driver... CMIIW...

Update: I uninstalled the drivers, restarted the computer, let windows intall the drivers automatically (since it did recognize it), i thought i was done...but that was not the case. I still couldnt find my OD drive, and I had the same message saying that windows can find the files or that they were corrupt.. This is really annoying me as Im not even sure what caused this problem..
