    Hey guys,

ran into a bit of trouble after months of rocky sailing.

i came back today to a laptop that said, Windows 7 Build 7600 not genuine copy. It just came out of the blue and I am unable to validate it so far.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    From Windows help...

You might have to activate Windows again if:

    • You uninstall Windows on one computer and then install it on another. During installation, enter the product key that came with Windows. If automatic activation fails, follow the instructions that walk you through activating Windows by phone. You'll have 30 days to activate Windows.
    • You make a significant hardware change to your computer, such as upgrading the hard disk and memory at the same time. If a major hardware change requires activating Windows again, you'll be notified and will have three days to activate Windows.
    • You reformat your hard disk. Reformatting erases your activation status. In this case, you’ll have 30 days to activate Windows again.
    • A virus infects your computer and deletes your activation status.
If you have to activate Windows again on the same computer, you don't need to buy a new product key.

You may need to activate by phone. It's a relatively painless process :)

Sounds like something is messed up, do you still have the product sticker with the product code on it? where did the windows 7 come from? When you enter the product key does it error out?

i noticed this cool little util ms offers for genuine diagnostics

    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

might be worth running to see where the problem lies.

also try and activate by phone as you sometimes will have to if it needs to be reactivated too many times within 120days.

You can always google the Cert-Serial activation method. Try Windows 7 Loader, it'll let you enter your personal CD key and install the asus certificate for you - much easier than doing it over the phone. When I tried it over the phone, I spent 10 minutes only to have MS tell me that my key wasn't valid...

Where did you get the laptop? Sometimes refurbs don't get cloned properly. I had this problem with a refurb from JR on my G50VT. All JR offered was to take the system back. I called MS and spoke to a person. They just activated it for me.

    Cheers,
