    hey guys

i've had my v1j for about a year now and it's starting to act up. my system lags ALOT. so much so that i frequently need to use the emergency shutdown thing where i hold the power button for about 4-5 seconds. i know that's not good for the HD but i've got no choice! also, when i switch it on again after switching it off via the forementioned procedure, disk check takes place and even THAT hangs. it takes almost 30mins for windows to start up AFTER i've cancelled disk checks for both my HD partitions.

what should i do? i've backed up all my important data. i wanted to go into "safe mode" to reformat my secondary drive but i can't even get into safe mode. do i need to send it in for servicing? i've heard really bad stories about asus support in australia so that's my last resort. should i use the recovery disk supplied with the laptop? what are the issues that i can expect to tackle after using the recovery disk, if i do use it?

i'm new to all this troubleshooting and stuff, so i'm really hoping someone here can help! thanks in advance for all replies.

i'm not sure. how do i check that? how do i check the temp of my cpu?

the air vent does get VERY hot at times - i can't put my fingers there for more than a few seconds. and the area near the bottom right of my keyboard gets heated up quite alot too.

has the problems got to do with my hardware? -crosses fingers-

    http://cpu.rightmark.org/download.shtml

Scroll down the list and get RMClock. On the left select "Monitoring" and it'll show your temperatures on the lower right. What's the temperature when you're just surfing?

Just because it's hot doesn't necessarily mean that there has been any hardware damage. These processors run hot by nature.

That's a little high for idle but it's no where near high enough to cause problems.

I've never used the recovery disc so I don't know what's involved.

    You're welcome.
