well here's my problem i'm trying to install the new ati drivers updates, however i keep getting an "inf error video driver not found" anyone know what i can do without having to install the omega drivers.

Originall ATI drivers don't support X1600 Mobility. You have to take some moded drivers or stuck with drivers from Asus. Period.
-
Wait another couple weeks and we will be able to use the hopefully updated drivers Asus releases for the Z96J.
-
I just installed the new Omega driver and it found the graphic card as "ATI X1600 Mobility".
-
Do you think the Omega drivers by default will make the x1600 run better/faster? Prob. a higher clock speed out of the gate.
-
They're optimized so you will probably gain a few hundred points in 3DMark.
-
Using the drivers that the W3J came with, HalfLife 2 would crash at 2-5min intervals. After updating to Omega I've played it for 3 hours with no hiccup. If you're going to use your X1600 for 3d gaming I'd highly recommend the omega drivers.

Omega drivers work great for me.

What's up with ATI not supporting cards newer than Mobility x800? Isn't it about time drivers were released for them?
-
where can i find this omega drive at i also need the update for gaming thanks.

Hmmm let me think...Google -> omega drivers -> first link!!! Jezus....

Omega drivers do not mess with the clocks as far as I can tell.
Also, like cheshire, CS:S and DOD:S were crashing for me within 5 minutes everytime I booted them up also.
No problems since I switched to the Omegas.
I think I read somewhere the reason ATI hasn't updated the drivers for some laptops is that some companies don't want their drivers on their laptops. So ATI doesn't release new drivers for Asus and Dell laptops (and maybe some others) but they do for everyone else that wants them. I believe thats where the omegas come from, they are hacked/modded desktop ATI drivers made availabe on these machines that don't want ATI directly updating the drivers.
I think thats right. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. -
The stock ATI drivers for the W3J didn't work with Guild Wars. The game locked up, forcing me to reboot. It did this when there were a lot of things going on in the game -- fighting multiple enemies in a party, rotating the camera around.
I installed the Omega drivers, and Guild Wars played fine the first time. The next few times I played, though, the game eventually locked up, sometimes when I wasn't even doing anything that I thought was particularly demanding (e.g. buying something from a merchant). The screen froze, and the sound went into an endless loop, like a broken record. It was rather worrying. I had to reboot.
The Power4Gear was set on "Game" and my notebook was plugged into AC power.
I don't know if I am doing anything wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Also I wasn't planning on overclocking my GPU so when I installed Omega I specified that it is a laptop GPU so the ATI Tray Tool I think installed without allowing for GPU clock modifying. Though since you mention it I will check what clock they are set at now since I perhaps falsely assumed that Omega will just stick them at their default settings.
And yes I absolutely love the W3J! No problems whatsoever.
(except for that standby-hibernate-->coma & won't wake up thing. but the workarounds mentioned elsewhere did resolve the issue) -
The Omega drivers do not work for me, and I installed them to the letter. I am not learned enough in computers to deviate from the standard installation procedures.
I am working with the laptop seller's technical services department to try and fix this. I honestly don't know what to do, and surprisingly these forums have not been the most helpful.
