i am trying to narrow down my new notebook for the school year, i have a dell with a pentium iii that is just getting a little too slow, and the screen resolution isn't quite enough to be productive. i've narrowed it down to these guys:

asus z35f - has the integrated ram, but everything else about it seems sweet.
asus z62f - gives me 2 dimms, but gets a little bit bigger and heavier.
dell xps m1210 - still seems like a solid little notebook.
apple macbook - i'm in love with the design, but i'm not sure if i can justify the extra cash.

i do not live on campus in a dorm, i ride the bus to school every morning. since i'm already carrying books, i'm not sure how much an extra pound or two will hurt me in the notebook world, but i still can't decide. i think i would go with the z35 if i knew that the integrated ram wasn't going to hurt the speed too much, i would get another 512mb.

    any help is appreciated.

i guess of course i could always get that new leather s6 from asus as well, right :D

there is no performance issue with integrated ram, the only negative is limited upgrade path because you only have 1 open ram slot

how about any issues with the integrated ram being 533mhz vs. 667 mhz? also, how is the latency on integrated ram?

you may want to scan the benchmarking thread re: 533 v 667. if it came with 533, it certainly wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me and, to be honest, if you're that concerned with performance, you're looking at the wrong notebook if it's got integrated ram

the performance difference between 533 and 667 is very little (especially if the 533 have a lower latency) if at all.

this is the thread drumfu was refering to: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=67099

I think you should also look at battery life since you want it for school and therefore might be away from a plug sometimes, I think the Z35 might be the winner in that section (not sure though) especially that there is a 9-cell bat option
